George, Just for curiosity sake, In problem #2, we know that there are digits at the end to be removed, but what if digits and alphabets are mixed? Ex: XML FILE <INFO>some book 19 some discription</INFO> <INFO>another book 2000 some description again</INFO> <INFO>the last book 90 text</INFO> Now, we need just the text before the number. i.e. "some book" or "another book". George, I greatly appreciate your help in this. Im a C++ programmer, and it seems XML doesnt use the same logic at certain instances. I just have 2 more problems: FIRST: In this problem, I just need the last four digits of the ISBN. But the catch is that the ISBN length is not constant, but is always greater than 4. [Off-topic] XPATH on SGML Comments?

Hello, I don't see a way to perform xpath on SGML comments when using DTD's. In XML Schema the xsd:lang, xsd:appinfo and xsd:documentation can be easily xpathed because they are valid xml elements. But SGML comment tags are not true XML elements. Does anyone have a way to create an xsl that will extract (copy) comments from an xml file. XSL transformation

Guys, Sorry about not being clear, earlier. Here is a sample of my XML file. <book> <author></author> <co_author></co_author> <co_author></co_author> <co_author></co_author> </book> <book> <author></author> <co_author></co_author> </book> <book> <author></author> <co_author></co_author> </book> ..... (n number of books) I tried using <xsl:for-each select="author/co_author"/> along with <xsl:value-of select="//co_author"/> but it ittirates through the whole sheet and repeats just the first co-outhor. I hope you guys have understood what im say. Please consider posting a cut down sample that shows your problem. Sure you do not need to rename the author tags as author1, author2, etc. you can access each of them separately. For instance if you use an XPath expression like //author you can access all the author elements in your input document. If you want to iterate through them you can use Code: <xsl:for-each select="//author">...</xsl:for-each> You can have a template that matches author an if you issue apply-templates that will act on author elements that template will be activated. If you want to access the first three author elements then //author[1], //author[2] and //author[3] will select them respectivelly. Best Regards, George

Oxygen fails to start on Mac OS X Panther

Hello, There are users that have run the Oxygen XML Editor on the Mac OS X Panther. However there are reports that the Panther install breaks the Apple Java VM on some systems. (A conflict between the Quick time libraries and Java) This means that no Java applications will run. An easy way to see if you have this problem is to open the the Terminal application, you will find it in your Applications->Utilities folder. Type the following command: java -version You should see the following message displayed: HotSpot not at correct virtual address. Sharing disabled. This means you have the problem. You can solve it by follwoing the steps: Rename: /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework to /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework.bak Next, load the Panther installer, and perform a "Custom" install of ONLY the "Essential System Software" (which includes Java). When it finishes, you will find a brand new JavaVM.framework directory, and "java -version" reports "builder 1.4.1_01-99", as it should. Once everything works, you can delete the JavaVM.framework.bak directory. Other solution is to force the editor to use the java 1.3.1 which is available on every Mac OS X platform. For this, open the oxygen.app bundle: CTRL-click on the icon, select "Show package contents", then open Contents and edit using the TextEdit application the file Info.plist, modifying: <key>JVMVersion</key> <string>1.3+</string> to: <key>JVMVersion</key> <string>1.3.1</string>

Getting XSL Extensions to Work

This converstion from docbook-apps shows that the problem is not unique to me. Th eonly difference is that I have copied the extension file to the oxygen lib folder. According to george that should put the jar into the oxygen classpath. This makes sense, yet everywhere else I look discussion seems to indicate that this is a calsspath problem. Perhaps to copy to the lib folder is not enough. Perhas I must add the lib folder to my system classpath? But then we will not know where the problem is and why. Guys has somebody actually tested the extensions under oxygen without adding the lib folder to the system classpath? When I turn off tablecolumns.extension I get a new message related to XNodeSet.InsertCallout. Perhaps xalan2.jar is found by oxygen but it looks for the other jars, the ones George thought where just the resources. Hi, I have added saxon651.jar to lib so that I can use saxon extensions for processing callouts. My customization layer has use.extensions set 1 callouts.extensions set 1 callout.graphics set 1 callout.graphics.path set to path Yet when I transform using my xsl I get an error "Processing terminated by xsl:message at line 203". When I look at line 203 from fo/docbook.xsl it has nothing to do with extensions. Any idea how I can get xsl extensions to work? Sean Wheller __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
