Hello, "Compare files by: content" means binary comparison for the files in the compared directories, with a result of identical/not identical for each pair of compared files. It does not apply the algorithm set in the "Default algorithm" combo box as this combo is not located in the Directories Comparison section of the dialog. That algorithm is applied only for file comparison. You guessed the reason yourself - an expensive algorithm like XML Accurate applied for each pair of files would take too much time. I am using 'compare directories' and have set the preference to "Compare files by: content".
I have set the file comparison algorith to "XML Accurate" but this seems to apply only to the file comparison itself and not to whether or not the files are listed as different in the directory comparison window.
Is there a way to apply the selected file comparison algorithm to determine if the files show as different in the compare directories window? I know it will take some time if you choose one of the more expensive algorithms and there are a lot of files but I would find this very useful.
