If you use the executable to open oXygen then you need to make sure the multiple instances is not set to true in the oxygen.vmoptions file.

I originally installed with sudo:

Everything seems to be working fine now after I installed under my home folder (which I think should be the default anyway). But, working in oxygen seems much slower than before I upgraded. I have restarted my machine - it has 2 gigs of memory and dual 1.66 processors. (I don't have any swap space in use)
I am using Ubuntu 8.04 with the default Compiz and the Appearance preference set to the Normal option.
