I think he means opening the document at 50% zoom and in side-by-side page view.  I know FOP supports some PDF extensions, but I don't know about those.

Hi Bernhard,

I do not quite understand, do you want to create some kind of a PDF preview with half of the PDF contents missing?
Once you have the full PDF available there are various PDF split utilities which may be useful (maybe you can google for "PDF split" or "pdf remove pages").
