I had a similar issue on Redhat Enterprise 7 accessed via RDP from Windows. If you are working remotely (e.g. via XRDP), check if the framebuffer is configured to use 24-bit of color. The VM sits behind a firewall which blocks ftp-protocols and cannot be altered, because we don’t administer it – this has led to problems in the past, therefore it’s worth mentioning.
