How do you detach a tab? It seems like I'm inadvertently detaching tabs all the time when I don't want to. But I can't quite figure out exactly what I'm doing to detach the tab. I actually want to disable tab detaching. Sent from my iPhone

Hi Tom, You can arrange the toolbars, side views and editors by dragging from their tab and dropping them to a new location. This video demo shows how this works: http://oxygenxml.com/demo/Dockable_Views.html Please let us know more details if you think there is an issue with detaching an editor or a side view - right now I think there is no option to disable this functionality. Thanks for pointing me to the videos. I watched them. It seems like detaching a tab is done by dragging the tab while keeping the mouse button depressed. However, my tabs are occasionally detaching when I just click the tab. Maybe I'm making a micro-drag gesture or something, but it's quite annoying. Also, not sure why, but sometimes my tabs turn black. Here's an example: http://www.screencast.com/t/H2bYuhgoNAd I'm on a Mac using OSX Lion. The black tabs phenomenon happens when I unplug from a Dell monitor and then plug back in. It only happens sometimes. To fix it, I have to totally quit Oxygen and restart it. Hi Tom, Please try to organize the toolbars so that when switching between editors does not cause two more toolbar rows to appear or disappear. I know we worked on trying to avoid a false drag start event when this happens but it may still appear if the editor change causes the tab to move a large distance while the mouse is pressed. We will look into the black tabs issue - I remember I experienced something similar when disconnecting a projector from my Mac. We will let you know as soon as we have more details on this. Hello Tom, If you detach editor tabs frequently by accident, you can disable this feature in Options > Preferences, Perspectives Layout, "Allow detaching editors from the main window". Regarding the black tabs, we've investigated and this can indeed occur on OS X if you enable 'Mirror Displays' after plugging in an additional display while Oxygen is running. This seems to be an issue triggered by the docking framework used by Oxygen when run with Java SE 6. We are looking into updating the docking framework in the next release of Oxygen. From what we tested this problem does not occur with Java SE 8. So, if you find this issue annoying, you could use the alternative kit of Oxygen for 'OS X 10.8 and later (Includes Java SE 8)'. You can download it here (Oxygen XML Editor): http://www.oxygenxml.com/InstData/Editor/MacOSX/VM/oxygen.tar.gz Please let us know if encounter further issues. George, thanks for the help. I set the preferences option to disallow editor detaching. I also downloaded the alternative kit for Oxygen at the link you provided. However, I noticed that with that version, I have to reset all my transforms and other preferences. Are there any advantages to using Java SE 8 over the other version of Java SE that the regular 16.1 version of Oxygen uses (besides fixing the black tabs issue)? Also, congrats on the release of 16.1. That looks like a lot of new, useful features and updates. Hi Tom, The preferences should persist no matter the kit. However, make sure you have installed the same product bundle (Editor, Author or Developer) as before and are using the same launcher (Editor, Author or Developer) as before. Note that the Oxygen XML Editor product bundle also includes launchers for Author and Developer in addition to the Editor launcher. However, each of these launchers uses a distinct set of preferences. Also, if you've upgraded to a new version of Oxygen (from v16.0 to v16.1), the options get imported automatically in the new version only the first time you start it. There are no obvious advantages of using Java SE 8 (from Oracle) over Java SE 6 (from Apple) with Oxygen on OS X. Some would argue that Java SE 8 is faster and thus better. However, currently for best results we still recommend using Java SE 6 (from Apple), because, so far, it has proven to be a more stable and better integrated implementation for OS X than Oracle's. So currently we can only recommend the Java SE 8 kit for those situations where the other kit falters.
