[ANN] New video demonstration available: Smart Paste

Hi, We are happy to announce the newest video demonstration that highlights oXygen's capability of converting unstructured content copied from various sources (like web pages or Microsoft Office documents) into valid structured DITA content. This capability is also available in other documentation frameworks embedded in oXygen, like Docbook, TEI and XHTML. The video demonstration is available at: http://www.oxygenxml.com/demo/Smart_Paste.html Best regards, Dragos -- Dragos Cimpeanu <oXygen/> XML Editor, Schema Editor and XSLT Editor/Debugger http://www.oxygenxml.com

Nice demonstration. Question: what tool did you use to create the demo video? I like the little action annotations. Cheers, Eliot On 10/18/11 7:06 AM, "Dragos Cimpeanu" <dragos@sync.ro> wrote:

We also used Camtasia studio for our XSLT video: http://www.CraneSoftwrights.com/training/ptux/ptux-video.htm It was chosen by my video production friend who recorded me for five days and edited the final result into over 24 hours. Interestingly, the files produced by Camtasia are in XML and so I was able to write an XSLT stylesheet to massage them into Crane's look-and-feel rather than the default appearance. . . . . . . . . . So where does one find more details about Smart Paste and how it works? I looked in the online Help file, and that term did not appear in the Index. Using Search in the online help I found the "Schema Aware" topic, but that was just to turn it on, it seems. Hi Bob, This works like this: we look in the clipboard for content in HTML flavor we convert that to XHTML we apply the frameworks/docbook/resources/xhtml2db5.xsl on this XHTML fragment we paste the Docbook result into the document - this may trigger a number of recovery/automatic fix actions Best regards, George On Oct 18, 2011, at 20:01, "Bob Stayton" <bobs@sagehill.net> wrote:

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi George, Are there limitations wrt platform or browser for the browser-to-oxygen conversion? I was able to paste in an image as shown in the video, but if I try to paste in a ul or some other simple construct from the browser, it pastes it in as plain text. Likewise, if I try to paste in actual html markup, it escapes all the markup and pastes it in. I'm using 12.2 on Linux testing with Firefox and Chromium. Hi David, The only limitation is a browser which does not post HTML code or XHTML code to the system clipboard with the copied content. Also the option "Convert external content on paste" must be enabled in Preferences -> Editor -> Edit modes -> Author -> Schema aware. By default it is enabled. If this option is disabled the copied content is pasted as plain text. Do you use a custom Docbook framework? If yes please try also with the stock one by setting back the stock Docbook framework in Preferences -> Document Type Association. If there is a difference between the result of the paste with the two frameworks and you did not customize the xhtml2db5.xsl stylesheet in your custom framework please replace xhtml2db5.xsl in the custom one with the same stylesheet from the stock one of Oxygen 13.0 and try again. Does that fix the problem? Best regards, Sorin David Cramer wrote:

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Yes, the source of the problem was that I was using a customized framework and had omitted the resources/xhtml2db5.xsl from my framework and from my classpath in the framework. Once I added that back, it works fine. It's a very nice feature and I like that I can tweak the xsl if necessary to handle garbage we might notice we're getting from html pages. Hi Bob, This video demonstration presents the complete "Smart Paste" support, which covers: - the conversion of the copied content into valid DITA, Docbook, TEI and XHTML fragments; - inserting the converted fragment at the correct (schema driven) location in the document. The documentation that you have found in the online Help refers to the "Schema aware" preferences, which controls only the second part of the "Smart Paste" support. We now work on improving the documentation for the next oXygen release, to clarify all these aspects.
