[oXygen-user] How to Search on Characters by Character Code?

Occasionally I need to search for specific Unicode characters, often characters that are not visible (for example, I just had an issue with character \u009D, (a control character that would normally never occur in a real XML document). I realized that I don't know how or if there's a direct way to search using character code. I worked around it by putting  in an XML file, switching to Author mode, then copying the character and using that for search, but surely there's an easier way?
