I tried to record David Maus's "What's in a Schematron?" paper from Markup UK 2021 on the Wayback Machine at web.archive.org. The paper is available as Oxygen WebHelp at https://markupuk.org/webhelp/index.html#ar02.html Saving that URL on the Wayback Machine records the URL without the fragment identifier. [1] The Wayback Machine shows just the ToC. Clicking on "What's in a Schematron?" in the ToC temporarily takes you to an archived page [2] but the page refreshes twice and you are back at the current https://markupuk.org/webhelp/index.html#ar02.html. That page will be a completely different paper as soon as there's a Markup UK 2022. The Markup UK 2021 papers aren't yet listed under 'Past Conferences' on their website, so a more permanent URL for David's paper doesn't yet exist. Is there a way to stop the Wayback Machine from refreshing to show the current version of an archived URL of an Oxygen WebHelp page? Is there a way to auto-generate an XML Schema that uses the Russian Doll design?

Hi Folks, The Oxygen tool to auto-generate an XML Schema from an instance document is great! The tool generates an XML Schema that uses the Salami Slice design. Is there a way to get the tool to generate an XML Schema that uses the Russian Doll design? /Roger

Dear Roger, Sorry, I tried to format the URL and accidentally deleted a character from it, the correct link is: https://www.oxygenxml.com/doc/versions/23.1/ug-editor/topics/preferences-en… Unicode encoding is UTF-16 and it expects 2 bytes for each character while Notepad saved the document using UTF-8 or an encoding that encoded each character from "Hello world" as one byte. So, if you use Unicode UTF-16 when reading the file then each pair of two bytes will be decoded as one character and the codes for "Hello world" will result in those unexpected characters - you can also note that there are 6 strange characters instead of 12 as you would expect, this is exactly because URF-16 is using 2 bytes for each character. Please change that setting (Options->Preferences -- Encoding -- Fallback character encoding) to the default value UTF-8 and you should be able to open the file as expected. For XML files there is a detection process described by the XML spec. For other type of files the rule is to always use UTF-8. For generic text files there is no encoding information available, so Oxygen provides a default (UTF-8) and exposes that as an option that the user can set, see Options->Preferences -- Encoding -- "Fallback character encoding" and also the corresponding user guide topic: https://www.oxygenxml.com/doc/versions/23.1/ug-editor/topic/preferences-enc… The first thing to do is to check what value you have for this option in your Oxygen installation, to understand what encoding is used to read the content of that text file. Why is Oxygen showing my files in Chinese?

Hi Folks, I created a Hello, world text file using Notepad. Then I dragged and dropped the file into Oxygen. Oxygen displays the text in Chinese (I think). See screenshot below. How do I fix this? /Roger [cid:image001.png@01D756BD.B9E32DC0]

Interesting and useful trick that I learned about Oxygen XML

Hi Folks, I have an XML Schema with a simpleType that enumerates its values. The enumeration values are long; for example, here is one value: <xs:enumeration value="end coordinates of the starting point and ending point" /> I wrote an XSLT program that generates a schema-conformant instance document. Before validation I clicked on the Format/Indent button to get the instance document nicely formatted. Then I clicked on the Associate Schema button. Then I clicked on the Validate button. Validation failed! When I checked to see what failed, I saw this: <shapeIsDefinedBy>end coordinates of the starting point and ending point</shapeIsDefinedBy> Yikes! The formatting/indenting tool split the enumeration value across lines, which created an invalid enumeration value. Here's the trick I learned: 1. Load the instance document into Oxygen XML 2. Click on the Associate Schema button 3. Click on the Format/Indent button 4. Click on the Validate button Do it in that order! The key is to Associate Schema first and then Format/Indent. When you associate a schema first, then the Oxygen format/indent tool knows that it shouldn't split enumeration values across lines. /Roger

Hello oXygenists, Today I find myself (surprisingly for the first time in a serious way) using the fantastic Schematron testing under XSpec as implemented in oXygen. Beautiful job in every way. Except my fancy Schematrons all embed XSLT and my operations rely on -allow-foreign:true in my Schematron processor. Running the XSpec (using its bundled Ant build) gives me grief about the XSLT. I poked around in the Options but nothing is obvious. Is it the build.xml file? My Ant is even worse than my XSpec. Displaying LaTeX in XML documents

Hello, The blog post at https://blog.oxygenxml.com/topics/adding-latex-equation-support-dita.html refers to a plugin that will create an image from LaTeX to display in Author mode. I downloaded the ‘latex-images-support’ folder and installed it in my plugins folder. The math expression in the sample file— <?xml-stylesheet type="text/css" href="sample.css"?> <root> A document containing LaTeX : <latex>$x=\frac{1+y}{1+2z^2}$</latex> </root> is rendered correctly as an image when I view it in Author mode (using Oxygen 23.0). I’d like to be able to use the plugin with JATS XML documents, which can contain LaTeX inside a <tex-math> element, like so: <tex-math notation="LaTeX" version="MathJax">$x=\frac{1+y}{1+2z^2}$</tex-math> or <tex-math notation="LaTeX" version="MathJax"><![CDATA[$x=\frac{1+y}{1+2z^2}$]]></tex-math> Is there a way to configure or modify the plugin to handle this? -- Michael R. oXygen validation of datetime attribute in XHTML

Greetings, oXygen list, One of my students (copied here) has discovered an interesting discrepancy between the way oXygen and the w3c Validator respond to the datetime attribute in XHTML. In oXygen, with an XHTML 5 file, the encoding of the datetime attribute with simply a year <time datetime="2019">2019</time> raises an error. The error notification disappears if we use an ISO formatted year-month or year-month-day datatype (as in <time datetime="2019-04">2019</time> or <time datetime="2019-04-15">2019</time>). The xsd:gYear datatype isn't recognized as valid in oXygen's validation of XHTML, but we notice that it's not flagged as an error by the w3c markup Validation service for an XHTML document. When we change the context from XHTML 5 to HTML in oXygen, the use of a year only in the @datetime attribute is valid and all is well. My student and I would like to know if there's a reason for the year being insufficient for @datetime in XHTML validation in oXygen, or if this is something perhaps to be corrected in oXygen's validation?
