Hi everyone,
We’ve just released *Oxygen XML Editor 28.1* and I wanted to share a
quick overview of some of the key additions.
This release comes with important *enhancements in AI-powered
workflows*, *built-in support for S1000D® issue 4.x*, *improved DITA
editing and PDF publishing*, as well as introducing the new *Oxygen AI
Translator add-on*.
Here are a few highlights:
* *Planner chat mode*
A new Planner chat mode is available with the latest release of the
Oxygen AI Positron add-on that allows the AI to explore your project,
propose multi-step plans, and coordinate work across specialized agents.
You can review each step (including tool calls and results) before
execution, making it easier to handle larger tasks like bulk
transformations or content migrations.
* *Sensitive data masking*
Personal and confidential information (such as emails, phone
numbers, API keys) is automatically detected and masked before being
sent to AI services (you can extend this with custom patterns) and the
original data is restored in responses so your content remains accurate.
* *Enhanced AI interaction and control*
Files created or modified by AI are now shown directly in the chat,
where you can review and accept or discard changes, down to specific
fragments. There is also support for custom chat modes that can delegate
tasks to specialized AI agents, tool selection to fine-tune AI
capabilities, command-line integration (with your approval), and Vision
support for including images in AI analysis when relevant.
* *Built-in S1000D support (issue 4.x)*
Built-in support for S1000D content includes schema-aware editing,
validation, content completion, multiple authoring modes, BREX editing
and conversion, Smart Paste from web browsers or Word documents, and
ready-to-use templates for data and publication modules.
* *Oxygen AI Translator add-on*
A new add-on is available for XLIFF workflows that provides
AI-powered translation with quality checks, structural validation,
translation memory (TMX), custom instructions, caching for performance
and cost control, and progress tracking with job persistence across
system restarts.
* *DITA and publishing improvements*
You can now edit change history more easily in DITA prologs using
form controls, and PDF output benefits from better font fallback at
character level, improving multilingual rendering.
* *Developer tooling*
XProc 3.0/3.1 support is enhanced with improved Saxon XInclude handling,
better options parsing, and integrated HTML5 validation.
* *Comparison and collaboration updates*
File comparison includes configurable comment callout widths and
the option to include timestamps and user information in reports.
* *Updated add-ons and components*
The Git Client add-on now supports multiple worktrees and
introduces an AI-assisted “Explain commit” action. The release also
includes numerous library and platform updates.
