xml:id + docbook5 validation problems

I've noticed some inconsistencies in the way Oxygen validates a chapter element in an xinclude file when you add xml:id= I have . I'm trying to add xml:id to chapters so I can change the output html with the use.id.as.filename parameter. I'm using xincludes with each separate xinclude file containing a chapter. I'm getting a weird error message when validating in Oxygen. SystemID: I:\My Documents\xml\rj3\er1.xml Engine name: oNVDL Severity: error Description: bad value for attribute "id" from namespace "http://www.w3.org/XML/1998/namespace" Start location: 2:80 ******************************* here is what I have in the er1.xml file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <chapter xmlns="http://docbook.org/ns/docbook" version="5.0" xml:id="99er1"> <title xml:id="firstdd">Notion #1</title> <para xml:id="blah">ddddd</para> <para>Designed by Gustave Eiffel in 1889,<parameter ></parameter> The Eiffel Tower is one of the most widely recognized buildings in the world. </para> </chapter> Ok, now for the freaky part. If I remove xml:id attribute, rename the chapter element to sect1 and insert xml:id again, it validates just fine. I've tried it several times and can duplicate it each time on my machine. I've tried the Reset Cache and Validate option each time. Any idea if this is an Oxygen/validator bug or if there is something peculiar to xinclude syntax which I am overlooking? Any reason why this corrects the problem? By the way, sometimes it can be difficult to tell whether a problem is an application-specific problem or a docbook/xsl problem. Thanks. importing a custom docbook epub stylesheet

Hi, I noticed there is a good web demo of how to customize a docbook stylesheet. http://www.oxygenxml.com/demo/DocbookCustomization/docbookCustomization.html Basically you create a customization layer which imports the standard docbook stylesheet. Then you edit that customization layer. I noticed something strange. And it's seeing a mismatch between the latest version online with the local xsl it is references. I assume that xslt v2 is better because it's a bigger number (and I've glanced over the differences in syntax, etc). Can you think of a reason why something would fail when version 2 is specified which would not be the case if version 1 is specified? Is best practice just to play it safe and go with version 1, or should I generally use 2 unless otherwise specified? 2. I'm guessing that it's easier to debug a local copy of a xsl file than a remote one (in this case version 1.7.5.1 of the epub-xsl transform. which is different from the local version (which is 1.7.4 that came with 10.2). Is there a way that Oxygen knows to associate the URL in the xsl import command with a local file or files on my Windows machine? I don't know how to do this. 3. (Now for my really naive question). What's the best way to debug XSLT messages. Should I start at the source xsl of the file(s) being imported here. Or should I be looking up references in Saxon parser or using some Oxygen debugging view. I realize that the answer is probably "it depends", but where does one start first? Thanks. (Windows) opening up a file in different instances?

In Windows vista 64 , when I right click an xml/xsl file, a new and separate instance of Oxygen will open up. Problem with Idiom FO transform

Hello, I'm new here. I have a question: When I use the DITA OT transformation, the pdf is successfully created, but when I try to use the Idiom FO transformation, it chugs along, then stops and hangs with this in the log: 1071 ERROR [ main ] org.apache.fop.datatypes.LengthBase - getBaseLength called without context Does anyone know what that's about? Hi all, I've problem to select a value to one attribute: i need to change the content of one element and to select the value by the attribute of another element. Is it easy? sure, but problem is that i need to select the right element within all equal elements. CSS to Indicate Element References a Graphic?

For using CSS in Author mode for arbitrary doctypes (in my case, an XSD schema), is there a way to indicate via CSS that a given element is a reference to a graphic? I didn't see anything in the Oxygen help under CSS. First, Sorin, Good to hear that you are considering an epub transformation for a future release. I'll be sure to make an announcement at www.teleread.org when that happens. There is a dearth of good tools to produce .epub files from source. So here is my understanding based on what you said: When the files are in a project, the xpr project file is an xml file containing the customizations specific to your project. That includes names of files, and the specifics of any customized transformation which you have added for the specific project. So you could find your customizations here. so docbook5.framework stores all the scenarios which will show up for the docbook5 global scenarios list? My main concerns here are 1)being able to find the xslt customizations after I make them (in the event that i need to run them via command line or use another application), 2)being able to use the same xslt customizations for a second project if I create another docbook project and 3))not accidentally deleting or altering the default transforms. I guess the general solution is to use projects as much as possible. I'm looking here http://www.oxygenxml.com/doc/ug-oxygen/preferences-sharing.html I'm not quite sure what you are doing when you go to Configure Transformation Scenario and switch from GLOBAL SCENARIOS to PROJECT SCENARIOS and vice versa. Regardless of whether I select GLOBAL or PROJECT, they both show the same scenarios (the read-only scenarios indicated by a key icon and a customized scenario I have created myself). Is this normal? (My guess: I originally created them with GLOBAL SCENARIOS checked, and so that means they appear in the PROJECT SCENARIOS tab as well. But the rev). If I try to delete a custom scenario from either Project Scenarios or Global Scenarios and press ok, I see that the scenario i have tried to delete has not been deleted. What do I need to do to accomplish this? Reading through the archives, I see that you are trying to rework the UI for the transformations dialog. That would probably be a good thing. The thing that confuses me is why the same scenarios appear when you have PROJECT SCENARIOS checked as when would have GLOBAL SCENARIOS. Using cref, oxygen, and transforms

I have two files, one with a topic and one with definitions: * TOPIC* <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE topic PUBLIC "-//OASIS//DTD DITA Topic//EN" "Topic.dtd"> <topic id="CREF_TOPIC"> <title>Topic with crossref</title> <body> The best thing since sliced bread is <ph conref="cfs.dita#cfs/mpm"/>. </body> </topic> *DEFINITIONS* <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?> <!DOCTYPE topic PUBLIC "-//OASIS//DTD DITA Composite//EN" "Topic.dtd"> <topic id="cfs"> <title>Cross References</title> <body> <ph id="mpm">My Payment Method</ph> <ph id="stx">SuperTransactions</ph> </body> </topic> If I set this up & view in Oxygen 10.2, the first tile (TOPIC) displays the cref values just fine. When I run any of the default transforms in Oxygen (to PDF, HTML, etc.), the cref value is blank. I'm not getting an error in the transform - says it transformed fine. But cref isn't working. Clues on how to debug this? The cref is a major component of my documentation plans - I want to have pre-defined values that I can use in documentation so I don't need to update product names, release dates, and so on, inside the final documents.
