Is it possible to upgrade parts of the Oxygen Tool
Chain without compromising the integrity of the
application. For example if I installed the latests RC
of FOP would oxygen accept it?
I know this can be done with the DTD's XSD's and XSL's
but I have never tried it with sub-components like
Saxon, Xalan, Xerces etc.

I notice that 3.0.1 alpha bundles DB XSL 1.60.1 when
the current version is 1.62.4. Will this remain so or
will 1.60.1 be replace with the new version?
I think the DTD is also a bit behind.

When opening a file. Why does the editor need to Learn
the document if it has a DOCTYPE decl?

Hi,
SuSE 8.2, JRE,SE 1.4.2-b28, Oxygen 3.0.1 Alpha
FOP transformations on large files still fail. The FOP
message notes java out of memory error. I have set
internal FOP memory to 400.
Does the machine mem spec make any difference?
Obviously the mor RAM and the better the processor the
faster the FOP transform, but should I be able to FOP
a large file if I only have 256 MB RAM.
> free in bash shows
total = 251852 used 220552 free 31300
this is following reboot with KDE running, bash shell
open and Oxygen.
If I break the large XML document into smaller
(modular) files will this improve memory management?

Still cannot get the ver 3 Alpha to accept the
license. Is there a solution?
Did it work for anyone?

Where can I find information on how to interpret FOP
messages. For example if a message reads [INFO] [488]
what does it mean?

Hi Sean,
We are preparing an alpha kit with the new features like:
1. Possibility of inspecting the FOP output.
2. Possibility to set the memory available to FOP.
The file you sent to me generated a 11MB FO output. The FOP failed to
transform this file to PDF due to insufficient memory. We tried with
430MB and it succeeded.
I'll notify you when the kit is available.
Cheers,
Dan

Hello Sam,
Thanks for your question.
In Oxygen you can learn the structure of an XML
Document and save to a DTD.
If you then want to convert the DTD to an XSD, the
trang plugin, bundled
with Oxygen, can then be used to convert to XSD or
Relax NG.
The general procedure would be as follows:
1. Open you XML document.
2. Learn the structure by clicking the "learn
structure" button located on
the editor toolbar.
3. Save to a DTD by clicking the "save structure"
button. You now have a
DTD.
4. To convert it. From the main menu select Plugins >
Trang Wrapper.
5. Set the input and output, the click Convert.
The DTD will be transformed to the selected output.
I hope this helps. I have also posted your question to
oxygen-users.

I tried the transformation, but the file is too long to be handled in a
reasonable memory space. I get OutOfMemoryError. We'll need to make
some optimisations in the editor.
Thank your for reporting this.
