Aren’t they? Editing Non-SVG-Images If you double click a graphic, it is opened by an external editor. This editor is the application, which is assigned to this file extension (at least on Windows). Editing SVG-images If you double click an svg, oXygen fragment editor is opened. I don’t know, if you can configure oXygen that referenced svgs are handled like jpg-graphics. Perhaps this could solve your problem if it’s possible. @George: is it possible to change this behavior? Let’s assume it’s possible: - Assign Inkscape (or any other SVG Editor) to svg file extension. - If an SVG is double clicked your SVG is opened in an external editor Creating Equations/SVGs So you need a solution/extension for creating a new graphic/equation: - Implement and author extension with oXygen SDK - This Extension - creates a rudimental SVG/MathML file - sets a link to your image-Element - opens the SVG/MathML file in your external edtior If you provide a parameter for this author extension, where you can configure the XML string for the rudimental file, you have your “unified” solution. Visio-Files Saving SVG and VSD files out of Visio is not a job of oXygen or any oXygen extension. If you want to do such automation you have to extend Visio, to save an SVG automatically, when a VSD is saved. Although Visio has an SVG import filter, it always creates a copy and doesn’t work on the original SVG file. So I think it’s not a good idea to open an SVG in Visio for editing. But I can imaging following XML based workflow, as VISIO 2003-2010 supports an Visio XML file format VDX. So you have to enhance the workflow above and provide a rudimental VDX xml string, which is opened in VISIO. Create a second, rudimental SVG file, too, which is referenced in your DITA topic. Tell your users they have to save vdx and svg format or implement a plugin for MS Visio which does this automatically, when vdx is saved. (Of course you can transform vdx to svg by XSLT, but this will be a hard work) Editing this SVG means to open VDX file when SVG is referenced. So you have set a flag somewhere, your extensions knows it should go a specific way. (Perhaps another file extension or attribute?) But take care: In Visio 2013 VDX is a zip container like pptx, docx a.s.o. BTW: Any SVG-Editor put’s its own stuff to the SVG (especially Visio). You will run into validation errors if you are using the embedding svg method. Don’t know if Batic has any problem with rendering this stuff in oXygen (referenced or embedded) or FOP. So I think perhaps it would be a good idea, to think about and XSLT postprocess, which makes a native svg version 1.1 out of that stuff. Hope this helps Markus

Hi Bob, I saw George already answered to your question this early morning. With the extension George mentioned you are able to edit embedded SVG images too. So if you add an empty SVG-Element to your content and execute that function, you are able to create a new SVG image. Thats not nice at the moment, but its not a hard work enhancing this functionality that way. This functionality works with any SVG editor (Inkscape and Adobe Illustrator are used in my projects) and it works with any XML flavor which supports embedded SVG (not DITA only). SVG images are always embedded to your XML content file and arent referenced to file system. Our first thinking of implementing this extension was a reuse of existing images in different contexts. You want to create one single image, enhance it and use it in different manners. As this SVG is embedded we dont think about any reuse. Perhaps in DITA it could make sense to enhance the reuse potential by using conref functionality, but this of course depends on the requirements, concepts and processes. Im not sure about your use case(s). Could you provide more information, please. conkeyref preview with nested conrefs

In the latest Oxygen, I stumbled upon an issue that may be a minor bug. Ultimately the preview for Insert Content key reference -> Sub-topic doesn't show the full contents if you nest conrefs. For example: I have a keydef to a collection of product names that contains: <ph id="line_BacT"><tm tmtype="reg">BacT⁠/⁠ALERT</tm></ph> <ph id="prod_Virtuo"><tm tmtype="tm">Virtuo</tm></ph> Then there's an item that nests the above two conrefs: <ph id="prod_NewBacTAlert"><ph conref="#concept_C8D50348E99740B484761C442690972C/line_BacT" /> <ph conref="#concept_C8D50348E99740B484761C442690972C/prod_Virtuo" /></ph> A conkeyref to prod_NewBacTAlert should display "BacT/Alert Virtuo" in the preview. Instead the preview is blank for that item. It still inserts properly and renders fine so it's only in the preview display. marklogic debugging with oxygen

Hi, I'm trying to use Oxygen (v15) as a step-by-step debugger for MarkLogic. I've seen the video here: http://www.oxygenxml.com/demo/XQueryDebuggerforMarkLogic.html (thanks, George!) I have an XDBC server set up and use this to initiate the debugging process (right click on the server in the Data Source Explorer). However, when attempting to walk through a script, I see in the "Debugger errors" console the following error message: Severity: warning Description: Could not update breakpoints. They will not be in effect: The XDBC server used to send queries may not have its modules configured correctly. XDBC server name: setup, Modules database: file system, Modules root: c:/applications/kappav3/backend/src/. DBG-MODULEDNE: ns1:line(10246952917140151683, "/app/actions/fulltext/fulltext.xqm", xs:unsignedInt("42")) -- Module not found: /app/actions/fulltext/fulltext.xqm I'm wondering why this doesn't work. We keep the modules in the file system (at least during development), could that be a problem? The module in question is correctly located in the directory made up from the Modules root and the path ... Do you have any idea how to find out what the problem could be? cheers, Jakob.

Feature Request: Form Editing for <data> Elements in Default DITA CSS

It would be really handy to have either the default DITA style sheet or another built-in sheet be configured for form editing of <data> elements and specializations. I would expect that the @name and @value attributes would be fields. The content of <data> could be a field but because <data> may contain <data>, it's probably best to leave the content alone. Autocomplete for file paths in text mode--new?

With V15 I notice that if I start typing a URL or file path, e.g., in an @href attribute or something, that Oxygen shows me the available choices when I type a "/". I think that must be new, yes? In any case, it's very cool and will save me much time in the aggregate. A few config questions

I'm working though some things and I ran into questions I couldn't answer with the doc. I hope someone can help me out with them. 1. In the Open/Find resource, there's an option to "Index the content of remote resources" - how are those remote resourced defined? 2. "Search References" - when I'm in Author mode of a DITA doc, and I right-click on an element for Search References, it does search, but I don't know what constraints there are on the search. Does it search every XML file in the current project? Can I add search specific constraints? 3. Is there a way to enable quotes/apostrophes in the majority of the file, but use straight quotes and straight single quote in particular elements/xpaths? For example, I don't want an apostrophe in a codeblock, I want straight quotes. 4. Can the DITA Map Manager do anything with reltables? Thanks for any tips! -- Steve

oxygen does not shutdown when Windows 7 shuts down

Hi On Windows 7, oXygen 13.2 (both Author and Editor), does not exit when Windows attempts to shut down or log out. I can hit cancel and then I can usually shut them down manually. However, sometimes Author is then in a state of having the main text window all gray, and not responding to input. On a separate note, but possibly related, yesterday I was working on a new "DITA Scenario", and had to start over. I updated some other software and had to reboot. I am pretty sure Author got into that gray text window state at the shutdown. Then, later in the morning I had trouble with builds. The value of ${cfd} passed to the builds was incorrect, Author was instead passing the Editor installation folder in "C:\Program Files". After a few minutes of this, I decided to restart Author. When it restarted, it had renamed the Project File to a name with "temp" in it, and was running without it. I used SVN update to get a working version of the Project File and recreated my new "DITA Scenario". Notes: Installed: Oxygen Editor 13.2, build 2012052412 I generally run both Editor and Author simultaneously (both from the Editor installation), editing XSLT and Ant code in Editor and testing it in Author. Also installed: oXygen 11.2 I use it with other another XML build that needs its own oXygen Framework. I think that's because its "topic" XML type conflicts with the one in DITA. Using: Windows 7, Version 6.1.7601 SP 1 Build 7601 Standalone version, not integrated with Eclipse. My normal logout practice has been to log out only on Fridays, and to close oXygen Author and Editor when I leave work at the end of the day, in case an update restarts Windows. Somewhat relevant tools - ones that hook into Windows Explorer right-click menu with more than "Open with me!": - Q-Dir to replace Windows Explorer. Pretty much eliminates restarting Windows Explorer when it crashes. - TortoiseSVN - TortoiseGIT Why don't software companies make the "version" field selectable and copy-able, in the About box or equivalent? That would be a minor feature request, trivial to do, but useful every time someone reports a bug. Microsoft should do it, not just oXygenXML. Link xslt output messages to xml document

Hi, I would like to have my xslt output messages being linked to a node of the processed xml document rather then to the xslt script - preferably even with a differentiation between warnings and errors. (The use-case is that my transformation scenario can detect several errors in the processed document that can hardly be covered by schema/schematron. So the author should be able to easily jump to the position in the document to fix it.) I already managed to create a custom validation by calling saxon and passing the xslt script as argument. oXygen and network schema fetches

I was just checking Apache logs for the past month on our web server and noticed that the highest bandwidth was coming from downloads of RELAX NG schemas that we store there. When creating and editing XML files with oXygen, we typically use shared HTTP locations for our schemas. A little bit of testing shows that when opening and editing an XML file, an RNG schema is fetched over the network many times, not just when it is first opened. It seems to fetch it when the file is first opened, then when content is first added (in order to determine the valid elements and attributes), and then other times later during the editing. Is there any way to configure oXygen so that a schema file is downloaded once during an editing session and used from cache after that? Space between tags

Hello Everyone, I have a couple of users having some strange problem accidentally clicking on a tag when they intend to click between the tags. I think it's from using a monitor with a higher resolution than they are used to. I showed them how to increase the font size, but I was curious if there is any way to configure the spacing between the tags? Hello, years ago, I think, I was able to do automatic variable completion in ant files, ${basedir} and friends. I had the impression that this was possible in Oxygen (or was it Eclipes?). Today, this doesn't seem to work anymore, or is there a specific option to activate it? Oxygen seems to automatically recognise when I write a new build.xml file that it's an ant file. But variables aren't auto-completable and some element and attribute names are not valid according to Oxygen. I would guess that maybe the ant version distributed with Oxygen is not the latest one? How can I find out which version of ant is used, and how can I update it? Thanks, Jakob.

Smart pasting in Oxygen

I usually use such a great tool but in the last weeks, after installing the MS word 2011 I started to experience a few problems in pasting white spaces. A few are added where they shouldn't, others lack where they have to be. It's just me or something new happened? Claudio Tubertini
