Hi I find when I have a few files open in oXygen, that I soon reach the limit of too many files to find the one I want. This is a common problem, that I find in other apps as well. This is a hard problem. However, let's look at some specific irritants that you can probably do something about, most of which do not occur in other apps. - narrow list box The icon at the right of the list of files will show the whole list if you click on it. The names of the files are truncated, because that drop down list is too narrow. When this list is open, it doesn't matter if you can't see a lot of stuff under it. Please make it wider, maybe 50% wider? Or variable, so it will be as wide as the widest filename? - closing files Let's say I have 20 files open and I want to close the three in the middle. right click on one. select "close", and it closes. But... Instead of seeing the "middle" of the list, where I was just working, I now see the "left" side. (This is the bit I want you to fix) I then see the left most few files, maybe 6, and to get to the next one I want to close, I have to click the scroll button several/many times. Alternatively, I can click the "whole list" icon and find the file I want to next close, then select it. two clicks and some eyeball scrolling. Slow. - dragging files to change their order This is a similar problem to closing files. Try to drag a file, and the screen jumps to the left-most items, leaving you with a lot of scrolling to do to find it again, to drag it past one ... more ... file! - select different file, then go back Do this: - If I have currently selected a file that I am viewing in "text" mode, then click on the name of a file that is in "author" mode. Get this: - The number of toolbars open increases (that's OK, by itself) - The file I am now looking at "moves" to the left side of the screen (sometimes the right), instead of staying where it was. This may hide the file I was looking at before. This makes it difficult to move back and forth between two files. - ditamap vs. topic file One of our writers pointed out to me that maps open in the list get "lost" in the dita topics. Maybe different file types could have different background colors or some other differentiator in the list of files? Thanks for considering these requests. [Bug] Compressed SVG files not opened

The SVG specification allows for SVG files to be compressed, and does not require a different file extension for compressed files. However, when you attempt to open a compressed SVG with oXygen, you get an encoding error. oXygen should correctly determine if an SVG is compressed or not when opening.

Automatically add @type when a topicref is added to a DITA map

Hi group When I add a topicref to a DITA map, I see that the @type attribute is left unspecified. It would be nice if the @type attribute would then automatically be filled in, depending on the information type of the topic. Graphic href attributes

When we insert a graphic element from our custom schema and browse to the graphic we're inserting, we'd like just the absolute path to be inserted in the XML. For example, we'd like: <graphic href="D:/image.jpg"/> and not: <graphic href="file:/D:/image.jpg"/> Is that possible? Dave Hintz Siemens

Hi Adrian, I checked the paths of the files in the project. They were all in the same directory. oXygen_Global_Options.xml contains the system information. I created and validatedRelation_Image_List13Aug12 with XMLSpy. Validation took 1 to 2 seconds. The same file in oXygen already has the description at over 7,500 items and growing! 50% of the 2 CPUs is being used. I obtained the following message from the bottom panel: Description: Loading catalog: file:/C:/Program%20Files/Oxygen%20XML%20Editor%2014/frameworks/catalog.xml I attempted to validate after about an hour< I received an error message that the system had run out of heap space. System ID: D:\CytometryML\ACS\xsd\Relation_Image_List13Aug12 .xml Main validation file: D:\CytometryML\ACS\xsd\Relation_Image_List13Aug12 .xml Schema: D:\CytometryML\ACS\xsd\relations_image.xsd Engine name: Saxon-EE 9.4.0.3 Severity: error Description: Java heap space If the problem is the number of schemas imported, the parser can look in each schema and determine if the prefix is used, if not a comment could be placed next to each import element. The user could then erase it or comment it out. This is equivalent to a compiler parser looking for unused code. Thank you. The following XML validations will use the cached schema. When validating XML schema files, the entire schema hierarchy starting from the current schema is validated every time. However, the validation time that you report seems extreme for an XML Schema validation, even if a large schema hierarchy is validated. Do you have a validation scenario with multiple validation units or are you using the default validation as it is offered by Oxygen? Make sure the schemas are all local. In situations where schemas are imported from remote locations, make sure these remote URIs are resolved through an XML catalog to a local copy. My guess is some of the schemas from your schema hierarchy are requested from a remote location and that's what's causing the huge validation time. To determine if some schemas are retrieved from remote locations, you can enable XML Catalog verbosity in Oxygen from Options > Preferences, XML > XML Catalog. Set "Verbosity" to "All messages". Whenever you validate or perform an Oxygen operation that involves the catalog resolver, the attempts to resolve URIs, systemIDs or namespaces (depending on your Oxygen catalog options) will appear in the Catalogs view from the results panel (at the bottom of the editor window). Note that all attempts at resolving something are listed there, so it's possible you'll see a lot of redundant messages, first some that fail and eventually one that succeeds in resolving the URI. We are not aware of any schema caching mechanisms that Saxon offers in this regard, but we have not investigated this possibility. But, my belief is that the problem you have encountered lies elsewhere. There seems to be a bottleneck somewhere that slows things down significantly and my first guess is that some of the schema files are not immediately accessible. By any chance, have you tried to validate the same schema hierarchy with Saxon from the command line? Note that you'll need a separate Saxon deployment since the one bundled with Oxygen is only licensed to be used from within the application GUI. If in the Oxygen Preferences->"Document Type Association" page you edit the DITA document type, you can add an additional library in the Classpath list and then in the Extensions tab you can set your custom implementation for "Unique attributes recognizer". automatic numbering of self-created elements?

Hi, I've extended the DITA schema with elemnts we need for linguisitc purposes. One of them is ilexample and another is innerExample. When adding such elements to your topic, it would be nice if they could be numbered automatically. Is it possible to automatically generate an id for these elements, when the user adds such an element? Or should I write a plugin that is executed when the topic is saved? Any VirtualBox users find a way around the paste problem?

Fellow oXygen users, I'm nagged by the ever-present copy and paste problem from VirtualBox when pasting text from, say, an XP guest to a Mac host. The paste text includes a BOM at the start and a NUL at the end. Thankfully, oXygen strips the NUL so as not to make the XML document not-well-formed (Emacs doesn't do such stripping), but the BOM U+FEFF at the beginning of the paste buffer ends up in my XML and is not visible (though walking around with the cursor eventually finds it). It is visible in Emacs so I instantly am reminded of the issue ... I tend to forget the issue when pasting in oXygen. Has anyone figured out a way to configure either VirtualBox or oXygen to prevent the BOM from ending up in the edited file during a standard paste action? The time for a successful validation of a schema that solely imports 9 other schemas and does not have any data-type or element definitions was in excess of 10 minutes. The subsequent validation took 3 minutes. 2.66 out of 4 gigabytes of memory and 50% of the CPU were used. I validated with Saxon-EE 9.4.0.3 for XSD1.1. I suspect that the problem is that Saxon validated all of the imported schemas. Since these schemas had NOT been changed after their previous validation, this was a total waste of time! Does Saxon have a tool to check the time of the previous validation against the time of the last edit? If not, it needs one. There is a potential problem when two schemas import each other. In this case, it probably pays to validate both. A quick way to ameliorate this problem is to extend the validation-well-formatted pull-down to include Validate only this schema. Maps in editor don't have keyref support like topics do

Hi guys, Using oXygen 13.2, Standalone. Build: 2012052412 Setup) - Open a top level map in the Maps Manager, which references a map containing key definitions - Open a sub-map in the Editor containing <topicref> that uses @keyref to identify the topic file 1) - Try to open the topic file with "Right-click > Open > Open file at caret" - The dialog pops up that allows you to create the file referenced, using the "key" as the name for the file to be created. 2) - click on a topicref - double-click on "keyref" in the "Attribute View" - There is no drop-down list of keys to choose from Do these use-cases work in oXygen 14? We are using a script to create all our keyrefs from the ID's in the topic files, and from the names of the graphics files, so the key map is automatically generated. Any way to recover in-memory files?

oXygen users, I'm running oXygen 13.2 on a Mac. I was in the middle of editing a long XML file and did a global search-and-replace that had the effect of creating ill-formed XML. Now oXygen is spinning endlessly, running one core at 100% CPU, apparently trying to parse the file. I was also editing some XQuery code in a couple of tabs that I had not saved to disk yet. oXygen won't let me open those tabs as it is trying to complete its Find/Replace. Any ideas on how I can retrieve the code? If I force-quit the oXygen process, would the data be written anywhere that it could be retrieved? this is not mission-critical but if there is a way to retrieve the content it would be nice. Edit modes preferences do not work for "Find in Files" results

Hi group I'm using oXygen XML Editor 14. I have set my Edit modes preferences to open XML files in Author mode (Options > Preferences > Edit Modes > XML Editor: Author. This works when I open an XML file by double-clicking the topicref in a DITA map. However, I see that this does not work when I double-click an entry in the "Find in Files" pane. Can this be fixed? SVG font question

Using XML Catalogs to resolve location of CSS files

I guess this is an enhancement request, since I can't seem to get it to work. I want to be able to specify the location of a CSS stylesheet using a URL, and then have it resolved to a local copy using an XML catalog. If I actually make the stylesheet available at the specified URL, Oxygen will find and use it. But if it can't find it on the web, it won't load a local copy even though the URL is mapped to the local file system in the catalog. I'm using an existing catalog with system and URI rewriting rules that work fine for loading schemas, and I have verified that the paths are all correct, so I'm assuming the Oxygen does not currently support resolving a CSS URL via a catalog. Behavior regarding conkeyref before keydef

Hey Everyone, This is a fairly explainable situation and not causing major problems but I'm curious if there is a way to get around it. Here's the scenario: 1. I have a map with a conkeyref in the mainbooktitle. Hi, We added the support for spanning multiple lines with a regular expression in Find/Replace in Files in Oxygen 14.0. So if you use an older version of Oxygen the regular expression that contains (\s+) will find only the matches that span one line, that is it will not match the end-of-line character. You did not specify your Oxygen version but I think it is older than 14.0. I checked in Oxygen 13.2 and this feature was not present, it is a new feature of version 14.0. If you do not use version 14.0 please upgrade. Bug Report: Oxygen thinks DocBook <reference> is DITA <reference>

Hello to Oxygen Support, with thanks for such an excellent product. There is a small bug in a reproducible corner case, where Oxygen gets confused by a DocBook 4 <reference> element used at the top level of a file, and tries to validate the file in the DITA context. I’m attaching a zip file containing example files. This was tested with Oxygen 14, but I’ve seen this behavior in previous releases. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a new DocBook 4 file from the article template in Oxygen. 2. In the new file, replace “DOCTYPE article” with “DOCTYPE reference”, and change both instances of 4.5 to 4.4 (to match the standard we still use). 3. In the new file, replace the entire <article> contents with the contents of the <reference> example from the DocBook Definitive Guide at http://docbook.org/tdg/en/html/reference.html. 4. Add a <referenceinfo> element above the <title> element, containing one <corpauthor> element that contains any string. 5. A file as described above is in the attached zip file as def-guide-reference-example-1.xml. 6. This file validates as a DocBook file in Oxygen, as expected, as well as in XXE (XMLMind XML Editor) and with xmllint. But wait, there’s more: 7. Now create two more new DocBook 4.4 files as described above. Change to “DOCTYPE refentry” and replace the <article> contents with the two <refentry> elements from the first example. 8. Two files as described here are in the zip file as awk.xml and gnu-as.xml. 9. Now replace the <refentry> elements in the main file with XInclude references to the two <refentry> files. A file as described here is in the zip file as def-guide-reference-example-2.xml. 10. This second example validates fine in XXE and with xmllint, both of which can resolve XIncludes in DocBook 4 files. 11. As expected, this file fails to validate in Oxygen because Oxygen cannot natively resolve XIncludes in DocBook 4 files. (We are used to this fact of life, and wish it were otherwise.) But that’s not the problem. Notice the validation failure messages, which begin as follows: [cid:image001.png@01CD6E3C.66BF2B30] 12. Even if you edit this second example to add Oxygen’s xinclude.mod support, the file is still considered to be in the DITA context. 13. Further, copy a valid <refentry> element back into the file so that it has one <refentry> local to the file and two XIncluded <refentry> pages, and validation still fails with the message shown above. 14. Comment out the XIncludes, and Oxygen validation returns to the DocBook context. Conclusion: there is something about the combination of a <reference> top-level element and an <xi:include> element that makes Oxygen ignore the DOCTYPE declaration and instead treat the file as a DITA file. Note again that XXE and xmllint* have no problem with this combination. We grudgingly accept the fact that Oxygen does not support XIncludes in DocBook 4 files unless the xinclude.mod kludge is used. But Oxygen should never consider an otherwise valid DocBook-declared file as a DITA file, despite the use of the <reference> element in both standards. *Our xmllint validation command is: xmllint --xinclude --catalogs --timing --noout --noent –postvalid filename.xml You can ignore a message that SGML_CATALOG_FILES is not set, or just set that to =/etc/xml/catalog. (Tested on Cygwin 1.7 and Linux Mint 11.)

Find/Replace in Files: unable to find pretty-printed word combinations

Hi group I'm using Find/Replace in Files in oXygen XML Editor 13 to quickly find a word in all DITA topics referenced in a DITA map. Sometimes, however, I see that a given word combination cannot be found, even though I'm sure that the word combination is used in one of my topics. When I open the topic and look at the text in plain text view, I see that the word combination is split by a line break because the text is indented ("pretty print"), for example: <title><keyword conref="_conref_library.xml#topic_qjt_sdx_1f/keyword_wms_s2x_1f"/> time zones</title> When I look for "time zones" using Find/Replace in Files, oXygen cannot find it. Saxon and strange behaviour of xsl:sort with lang

Hi, I have hit strange behaviour when invoking Saxon from oXygen. It seems that lang attribute is not honoured when used on xsl:sort while collation works properly. "Create non existing component" in the light bulb list

Hi, If in a stylesheet, I write down in an XPath expression a call to a function that does not exist yet (I do that all the time, using a function before actually writing it...), there is a light bulb on the left column, with some helper features. But the list does not include a "Create the function XYZ" as it is usually in Java IDEs for instance. Could be a good idea to improve that list? List not updated when duplicating a scenario

Hi, Using oXygen 14.0, I have a stylesheet, I press "Configure Transform Scenarios", I have one XSLT scenario and I press "Duplicate", I change the name and I press "Ok". Even though the "Associated scenarios" list is properly updated with the new scenario, the main list does not show the new scenario. Hope that helps. In addition to asking questions of my collaborator, I like using it in conjunction with oXygen's track changes to indicate why I made certain changes. However, I notice that you cannot add a comment to a deletion. So sometimes I have to be creative (e.g. associate the comment with some "space" chars immediately before the deletion). It would be cool if I could associate my comment with the actual deletion. This isn't a must have, just a minor enhancement to some already nice functionality.
