New document in oXygen

Hi, I'm also having trouble with the New Document option in v12. In my line of work, I'm frequently (very frequently) using a new schema provided by a client or associate. Say I want to create a document using it. In v11, I had the choice of saying File/New and then selecting the schema in a dialogue. Unless I'm missing it, I can't do that any more. What's more, if I go ahead and create a blank XML document, I can't bind it to a schema until I have a document element. Sometimes I'll know in advance what the type of that element should be (along with namespace etc.) -- but not always. Maybe the capability of starting a new document with an arbitrary schema binding is right in front of me somewhere? Hi Khaled, For DITA publishing Oxygen just runs an external ANT process on the DITA Open Toolkit. You will have to make modifications to the ANT build files in order to copy additional non-DITA resources to the output folder. Then, if the resources are in the output folder they should be incorporated in the CHM. Hello oXygen users I had a problem getting the oXygen generated html documentation of XSL files to be copied to output folder, being referenced from a link element within a glossentry topic. I got over this by placing the shared resources in a folder that's external to both dita source and output. When transforming to chm, the html file referenced was not compiled and hence could not be displayed in html help. Is there any oXygen transformatio nmenu parameter that could be set (or added to be set) to enable chm to compile html resources that are external to the transformation output folder? Making the XInclude switch more accessible

Hi, As you know I've been using XInclude more intensively for a couple of projects. I'm grateful for oXygen's settings, including the setting to switch XInclude on and off per project. However, sometimes one wants to turn it on or off even more readily, for example before running a transformation or Schematron validation. Since the settings are fairly deep in the XML/XML Parser pane of Options/Preferences, this is a bit hard to do (and to instruct others to do). What would be great would be buttons to control this, and/or menu options, available at the top level. Maybe those are already there and I just haven't found them? Any ideas? Minor Annoyance: Unable to Force Map Document into Map Manager

In RSuite all documents are provided to WebDAV clients with an extension of ".xml". Thus if I open a DITA map Oxygen opens it in the editor window, not the map manager. Having done that I couldn't find a way to put the document in the map manager--I had hoped that I could just drag the tab from the editor pane to the map manager but that doesn't appear to be implemented. Likewise, the Map Manager doesn't have its own Open URL button so I couldn't get there by that route. Would it be possible/sensible to allow map documents to be dragged from the editing view to the Map Manager? The New File->New Dialog Not Cutting It

I'm finding the new File->New dialog to be must less convenient than the old one. One issue I have is that I have many different "templates" directories. I carefully name my template documents so they sort together, e.g, "D4P - Chapter.dita", "D4P - Article.dita", etc. That works really well in the flat list of templates. I tend to organize my templates by type within a containing directory named "templates": templates/topics, templates/maps, templates/word, templates/indesign, etc. In Oxygen 11 I could point to the ancestor templates directory and everything just worked. Very convenient. But in the new system, each containing directory is reflected in the New File tree, so I get a lot of "templates" entries under the Global Templates item, with no way to distinguish which project a given templates directory is for. Short of bringing back the old dialog, I think an easy fix would be to make Global Templates a flat list like the old dialog. Otherwise I can't think of any easy change that would make the new dialog behave usefully with the way I currently have my templates organized. One of the nice aspects of the old template mechanism was it meant that I didn't have to have a templates/ directory that was designed specifically for Oxygen, since the use of Oxygen is as much for my own convenience as it is for my clients. That is, I want my "templates" directory to be the holder for any kind of template for any tool or purpose for which templates is useful, not a specific "Oxygen templates" directory. Missed Regular Expression checkbox in oXygen 12

I just upgraded to oXygen 12 and missed the "Regular Expression" checkbox at the "Find/Replace in Files" dialog. Well, activating the help showed that it must be there and wasn't removed. At the end, I simply had to resize the dialog window and it showed up (together with the "include hidden files" checkbox) but nevertheless I think the user should be given some sort of hint that there are more options available ... Analyzing Map Validation Logs

I tested the new map validation feature by validating the full DITA 1.2 spec map, which is about as large a map as most people will have. The resulting validation large was long and includes a number of messages I know I can ignore, or least don't want look at. So to focus on specific errors here's what I did: 1. In the message result window I right clicked and did "Save results as XML". 2. Opened the XML file in Oxygen and applied the pretty print to it (so it would be easier to read). 3. Looked for distinguishing text in the message descriptions I wanted to ignore and then used this XPath to find all messages that didn't have those bits in their description: //incident[not(contains(description, 'subset')) and not(contains(description, 'key reference'))] This produces a list of <incident> elements in the XQuery result list. I then just selected each search result in turn and it took me right to the log message I cared about. I could then use the "Open file at cursor" feature to open the file in question. Took me about 5 minutes to find and fix about 10 bad links scattered throughout several hundred topics and a number of maps. New topicref insert dialog

I'm editing a map with a *lot* of topicref types (the PubMap domain from D4P). Because the new insert topicref dialog lists the topicref types first, this has the effect of forcing the "reference to currently-edited file" choice to the bottom of the list, which is a bit annoying. At least for myself, I almost always write a topic and then add it to the map, so reference to currently-edited file is the choice I almost always want. OSX: Cannot Launch Oxygen from Eclipse After Install

Under OSX I renamed my Oxygen 11.2 install from "oxygen" to "oxygen_11.2" then unpackaged the tar.gz for Oxygen 12 and moved the resulting "oxygen" dir to my Applications directory. I was then able to start Oxygen fine and verify that v12 started. However, from Eclipse, when I try to open a file in Oxygen by navigating to the Oxygen.app icon in the "Choose external application" dialog, the icon shows as a text file, not an application, after I choose it, and trying to run it gives a failure with this detail message: Error opening external editor (/Applications/oxygen/Oxygen.app). Cannot run program "/Applications/oxygen/Oxygen.app": error=13, Permission denied Any idea what the cause might be? I don't remember having this problem in the past. How to Keep Oxygen from Opening Epubs on OSX?

I use Oxygen to run the EPUB generation plugin for the Toolkit. I have it configured to "open in browser", which should launch the EPUB in Adobe Digital Editions, but it looks like Oxygen took over the EPUB association so the EPUB opens in Oxygen rather than ADE. I tried using Open... In Finder to make ADE the default opener again but it didn't seem to take. Easy Way to Delete Entire Elements Using Map-Based Search and Replace?

I have the situation where I want to delete elements in a bunch of topics where I can reliably find the elements (e.g., via XPath or regex). But there doesn't appear to be an obvious way to do this. Have I missed something? In my particular case the elements involved will have attributes with unique values or will span multiple lines. Using Other Toolkits with Oxygen 12

Should I be able to swap in different Toolkit distributions with Oxygen 12? I tried swapping in the one I was using 11.2, which is the 1.5.2M4 with a lot of plugins added. That failed when I tried to use it from Oxygen 12 with a method-not-found error related to the Xerces grammar caching. I didn't have time to track down the issue at the moment so I just restored the Toolkit as installed. But I'm wondering if the the Toolkit in 12 is more heavily customized and so can't just be swapped out? Default Setting for " Enable DTD/XML Schema processing in document type detection"

I noticed that the Enable DTD/XML Schema processing in document type detection setting in Document Type Associations is not on by default. Is there any reason that the default shouldn't be that this is on with "Only for local DTDs" also turned on? I ask because I set up a new dev environment for a client and it took me a while to figure out why Oxygen wasn't recognizing her specialized topics as DITA even though I had deployed the document types to Oxygen's Toolkit. I finally remembered this setting and turned it on, but it seems like it would be useful to have it on by default so that DITA processing in particular is more likely to just work. Reversing an SVN ignore

This isn't really an Oxygen/DITA request, but since Subversion is included in Oxygen, here goes: I use SVN to check out/in my content. Oxygen usually creates a TMP and an OUT folder. Generally these folders contain content I don't need, so I ignore them using the SVN:ignore command in Subversion. But one of my co-writers checked in the content in the OUT folder for one of the projects, and I need that content. How do I reverse the SVN:ignore on a folder? I checked online & wasn't able to find anything useful or that made sense. I looked through some of the files in the .SVN folder, but I don't see anything that makes sense that I could edit to undo this.

Questions about links

1. I have the following <p> tag with a linked PDF: <p> Please open the following document: <xref href="https://fileserver.com/documents/BXMLGuide.pdf">The Beginner's Guide to All Things XML</xref>. </p> (The URI for this is different in the actual document). I can use this very same URI and open this document. This link works in other documents. But when I transform this DITA content using the Legacy PDF transform, the link, while underlined in blue and apparently "clickable," does not actually open the document. 2. I have the following tag for an entry later in the document: See <xref href="C_setup_my_account.dita#setupmyaccount">Set Up Your Account</xref> for more information I can open this link within Oxygen - it opens the 'peer' file just fine. It's part of the same DITAMAP and when I transform to PDF, this topic is part of the PDF. But the link, while Blue Italic, is not clickable. 3. I remember (I think) that when I transformed to PDF using the Legacy OT transform that it also put the page number as part of the link for a link within the same document. Is this still possible?

Hi Radu I have found the cause of the problem: some topics have a link to a topic which is "outside the scope of the input dita/map directory", for example: <related-links status = "new"> <link href="../layout.xml#aw1140092"> <linktext>Layout.</linktext> </link></related-links></task> The DITA OT then gives me this warning: [pipeline] [DOTJ036W][WARN] The file "C:\temp\oxygen_webhelp_test\DITA\layout.xml" referenced by "C:\temp\oxygen_webhelp_test\DITA\prototype\to_create_a_task_topic.xml" is outside the scope of the input dita/map directory. If you do not want to see the warning message,please use the Ant parameter 'outer.control', and set the value as "quiet".Or,you can move the referenced file The graphics are then put in a subfolder. Controlling details of xref creation in DITA editing

For DITA documents, if I create a new xref using the cross reference dialog, the resulting xref element includes the title of the target as literal next. I never want this but I didn't see a preference to control this behavior. Is there one? Turn Off Mouseover Help in Elements Pane?

I'm using oXygen 11.2 on XP sp 3. The schema I'm working with has some rather extensive annotations which, when displayed as mouse-over help in the elements pane, obscure my view of the other elements and get in the way. I've searched through the the Preferences menus looking for a way to turn this off, if possible. Or at least lengthen the time before it appears. I haven't found it if it's there nor could I find this in the archives. Is there some way to at best turn off this feature or lengthen the time delay before it shows up? WebHelp output: graphics put in subfolder

Hi group (and Radu) I've got my ditamap and my topics in a folder named "doc"; my images are in a subfolder named "graphics". When I use oXygen XML Editor to generate webhelp from my ditamap, I see that the link to my images is broken, because oXygen XML Editor seems to copy my images to a subfolder: "out/doc/graphics" (where it should be "out/graphics". puzzling multi-schema behavior

Using <oXygen/> XML Editor 11.2, build 2010080212. Load http://scap.nist.gov/use-case/cyberscope/cyberscope-auto-feed-example-20100…. An explicit validation results in several Xerces errors in xAL.xsd and xNL.xsd. Is this due to actual errors in the schemata, or due to <oXygen/> validation settings? Regards, Gary

SearchJS transformation?

Preventing oXygen XML Author/Editor from overwriting commonltr.css?

Hi group I generate XHTML from my ditamap. In this process, the commonltr.css file in the OXYGEN_INSTALL_DIR\frameworks\dita\DITA-OT\resource\ folder gets copied to the output directory. However, I'd like to use a customized commonltr.css file in the output folder, but keep the original commonltr.css file in the OXYGEN_INSTALL_DIR\frameworks\dita\DITA-OT\resource\ folder. Is there an elegant way to do this? When I regenerate output, I see that the commonltr.css file in the output folder is overwritten. Thanks. -- Yves Barbion www.scripto.nu
