Run time xml validation with xml schema and embedded schematron rules

Hello, I have an xml schema grammar file (xsd) with embedded iso schematron rules. When I modify an instance file, the only way to get a full validation (xsd + embedded schematron) is to select "External Validation": *Information Window*: [09:18:18] - XMLSchema XML Error Scanner - start scanning file:/D:/wip/operators.xml with schema(s): file:/D:/wip/operators.xsd [09:18:18] - Found 0 problem(s) [09:18:18] - Schematron Error Scanner - start scanning file:/D:/wip/operators.xml with schema(s): file:/D:/wip/operators.xsd [09:18:18] - Found 0 problem(s) The standard validator (automatically running when I modify the instance document) seems to ignore embedded schematron rules: *Information Window*: [09:20:23] - SaxonSA Error Scanner - start scanning file:/D:/wip/operators.xml [09:20:23] - Ended I have tried to link the xml file and its schema by: - defining the schema in the instance file, with a {http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance}schemaLocation attribute - defining a document type association. I cannot find a way to configure oxygen to always use the full validation (xml schema + embedded schematron). Any idea ? Thanks for your replies Vincent De Groote

Open Map in Zip in Maps Manager?

If I open a Zip that contains a .ditamap file and then open the map file from the archive manager, it opens in the main editor, not in the maps manager. Is there a way to open the map in the maps manager? This is in the context of a DITA interchange package Zip that contains all the resources used by the map. Content completion & nested dependencies

Hi, This is about inaccurate content completion lists in editing XML instances associated with certain Relax NG schemas. I have some schemas that have this kind of structure: ... <element name="item"> <attribute name="name"> <value>first</value> </attribute> <element name="response"> <attribute name="value"> <choice> <value>alpha</value> <value>beta</value> </choice> </attribute> </element> </element> <element name="item"> <attribute name="name"> <value>second</value> </attribute> <element name="response"> <attribute name="value"> <choice> <value>gamma</value> <value>delta</value> </attribute> </element> </element> ... resulting in instances that look like this: ... <item name="first"> <response value="alpha"/> </item> <item name="second"> <response value="gamma"/> </item> ... What I tend to find when editing the instance, the content completion lists are accurate for //item/@name, but generally **inaccurate** for //item/response/@value. I can understand this -- the latter have a layer of dependency that the former do not. On the other hand, when I validate such an instance, the error messages I get from Jing regarding //item/response/@value always accurately enumerate the valid options. For example, this (invalid) instance: ... 1) <item name="first"> 2) <response value="gamma"/> 3) </item> 4) <item name="second"> 5) <response value="alpha"/> 6) </item> ... would get the following errors from Jing: (line 2) [Jing] value of attribute "value" is invalid; must be equal to "alpha" or "beta". (line 5) [Jing] value of attribute "value" is invalid; must be equal to "gamma" or "delta". The content completion lists usually would just show the choices pertaining to item[@name="first"]/response/@name, even when attempting to complete the value entry for item[@name="second"]/response/@value. So basically, Jing sees all the dependencies, but the content completion list algorithm does not. So my question is: would it be possible to give the content completion engine some hints from Jing, in order to improve the accuracy in cases like this where there are such dependencies? Or is there some other strategy for improving content completion in these cases? John

NCName not valid

I have to generate a set of IDs in my XSL-FO file, and have done so. However, I get a complaint from Oxygen that: <fo:block " id="1-2">.... E [Xerces] cvc-datatype-valid.1.2.1: '1' is not a valid value for 'NCName'. My programs seem to work, and I do not understand why I am getting this complaint. I thought digits were valid. Editor validation using MarkLogic

I'm trying to debug some XQuery code against a MarkLogic server. The debugging is working fine, but the editor red-highlights code that uses any ML extensions or functions. The error starts with : F [Saxon-HE XQuery 9.2.0.3] XQuery syntax error in #. ... So I know its using Saxon to do the editor validation. View Stack for Trackback of XSLT ?

Is there a mode in Oxygen where I can view the Stack during a trackback ? (is that the right word ?) I run an XSLT in Debug mode, and highlight part of the output. It correctly highlights the source XML and the XSLT line where that part was output. But what I'd like to see is the call stack at that point of the output. I can see the "Trace" window but that doesnt seem to be syncing with the trackback, and also doesnt show the stack. The stack view is empty. Any suggestions ? Saxon configurations

Hi, Among the recent changes in Saxon 9.2, the way it sets up support for numbering in languages other than English has changed. It comes with classes for German, French, Danish, Dutch and some others, but none of these work without being configured. The configuration is done by providing Saxon at runtime with a configuration file, or by modifying a class. Maybe oXygen hasn't caught up yet with these changes in Saxon, or maybe I don't know where to look, but I can't see where I can create or modify such a configuration file for Saxon in oXygen. Any ideas? MarkLogic help 'ERROR: 'Please specify an WebDAV URL in the MarkLogic connection"'

I'm trying to setup a MarkLogic connection in Oxygen 11.0 I had this working a few months ago but I've moved the server and trying to start from scratch. I can setup a "WebDav" Database connection no problem, it works great (in Oxygen and Windows explorer) But when I try to setup a MarkLogic connection to the same server/port I get this error MarkLogic help 'ERROR: 'Please specify an WebDAV URL in the MarkLogic connection"' My settings in the MarkLogic connection are as follows Name: ML_Modules_Clinical Data Source: (grayed) MarkLogic XDBC Host: 192.168.1.10 Port: 8011 User: user Password: ***** WebDav URL: http://192.168.1.10:8020 I've checked and checked and triple checked and all the ports, users and hosts are correct but Oxygen refuses to notice I've set a URL in the WebDAV URL field. Preferences not transferred to new version

When I upgraded from version 10 to version 11.0, and today when I upgraded to version 11.1, while some of my preferences were transferred, one set was not. In Options | Preferences | Editor |Format | XML, in the "preserve space elements" dropdown, the four elements I had added were not carried forward. As was said above, they have failed to carry forward for each of my several past upgrades (9.x to 11.1). Regards, Mark Wilson

Indentation, and diffing

Hi, I've just installed the brand-new 11.1. Congrats! Just a couple of questions/remarks. The announce says "Visual Editing of the XSLT Documentation". How can I use it? I sometimes, in quite specific cases, do align attributes and namespace declarations of an element each on its own line, the first one after the element name then other at the same position as the first one: <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xd="http://www.oxygenxml.com/ns/doc/xsl" xmlns:http="http://www.expath.org/mod/http-client" xmlns:ser="http://www.fgeorges.org/xslt/serial" exclude-result-prefixes="#all" version="2.0"> I've never used Cmd-P on stylesheets, but with the new documentation system, I do, as my stylesheets do contain text elements now. And those attributes are realigned like this: <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xd="http://www.oxygenxml.com/ns/doc/xsl" xmlns:http="http://www.expath.org/mod/http-client" xmlns:ser="http://www.fgeorges.org/xslt/serial" exclude-result-prefixes="#all" version="2.0"> Is it possible to tell oXygen to not indent attributes aligned on their element's name? Another strange behaviour is reformatting the following: <xsl:sequence select=" if ( exists($relative) ) then resolve-uri($relative, $base) else $base"/> as: <xsl:sequence select=" if ( exists($relative) ) then resolve-uri($relative, $base) else $base "/> And if I copy and paste the former, I get the following: <xsl:sequence select=" if ( exists($relative) ) then resolve-uri($relative, $base) else $base"/> Lines are re-indented (with 3 spaces instead of 4) and all on the same column. This is quite perturbing to have the usual paste to format the pasted content. And last but not least, I often align attributes of different elements, on subsecutive lignes, on the same columns: <xsl:variable name="one" select="..."/> <xsl:variable name="thirteen" select="..."/> <xsl:variable name="two" select="..."/> But after Cmd-P, all attributes are separated by one single space (when they stay on the same line). Is there a way to disable changing the spaces between attributes? Oh yes... And I like the standalone diff application! When diffing two XML files, is it possible to save a third file, with diffs annotated? To get something like the XMLSpec diff version? I know diffing XML is a hard problem, because of the numerous ways of defining what's a difference, what's an addition, what's a modification, etc. But that would be very helpful as a first draft, even if we had to fine-tune the file by hand in a second time. Copy the Document Type Definition of XML file

Hi! I'm trying to copy resp. to modify an XML document via XSL. Here I use the usual identity template: <xsl:template match="@*|node()"> <xsl:copy> <xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()"/> </xsl:copy> </xsl:template> Unfortunately the DTD definition of the source document is not copied at this way. Does anybody know how can I accomplish this? The only idea I had was that you can use <xsl:output> to write a DTD declaration with XSL. However, I have no idea how I can read out the declaration from the source XML document. Is this possible with XSL? Thanks for any suggestions! Rossen

Using "XML Editor 11.0, build 2009101212", I find that choosing Document > XML Document > Format and Indent (actually, pressing cmd-shift-P) deletes any and all comments and processing instructions that occur after the root element end tag. (And per production 1 of the XML Spec, they're allowed. But even if they weren't, they shouldn't be summarily deleted! :-) Apologies if this is a known bug that has already been reported.

Connecting oXygen to Mark Logic using XDBC

Hi, Just to let you know, the only way I could get oXygen to connect to Mark Logic 4.1 through XDBC was to change the authentication from "digest" to "basic" for the XDBC server in ML. Schematron validation "errors" enhancement

Hi, Currently, Schematron is regarded by oXygen as a validation technology, and it uses many of the same interfaces as XSD, RNG and DTD, including having its results reported in a validation results window. This is fine, but additionally, a distinction is made between Schematron messages emitted by Schematron 'assert' elements and those emitted by 'report' elements; the latter are classed as warnings, not errors. They are formatted differently, with a yellow icon instead of a red one, plus the word "warning". However, in my experience working with Schematron, more often than not this distinction does not hold. "Errors" or "warnings" or simple "alerts" or messages of any status whatever can be the results of either a Schematron 'assert' or 'report'; that is, which Schematron element is used to generate a message has nothing to do with the severity of the condition being reported. Or even whether it's good or bad: sometimes the message emitted by either an 'assert' or 'report' represents not failure but success. I wonder if in oXygen, this distinction could be removed, and the results of all Schematron assertions (both 'assert' and 'report', i.e "positive and negative assertions of a constraint") could be represented the same. If you really wanted to get fancy, the status of a Schematron message in oXygen might be configurable. Maybe the assignment of "error" or "warning" (or whatever else: blue or green icons?) could be made on the basis of a regular expression matching the message. It's pretty common practice for Schematron messages to be internally structured with their own language about errors, warnings, alerts, info, etc., with structurer error codes and the like. The same thing applies to the inline iconography, i.e., having errors from 'assert' underlined in red in the editor view, while 'report' results are colored yellow. For Schematron developers who are deploying oXygen as a validation platform for non-experts -- who are sometimes prone to be alarmed unnecessarily by iconography -- it would be really nice to be able to control this. If not, I think oXygen might at least be neutral on the question of which Schematron messages are at which level of severity. What do you think? verbose logging in dita transforms

I've noticed that the stdout content that scrolls by when I run a DITA transform with Oxygen 11 is a lot more verbose than it was with previous Oxygen versions. I get way more info than I need. Where is the verbosity level set for that? Thanks Ted Kuster help.collab.net

Special field for setting the transtype for DITA transform scenarios?

I have created a custom XHTML transformation type as a Toolkit plugin. In poking around the DITA transformation scenario dialog there doesn't appear to be a direct way to specify what becomes the -Dtranstype={transtype} parameter in the Java command that runs Ant. I realize I can set the parameter in the Advanced tab or use the effective ant target in the Build target field, but I think it would be helpful to have a dedicated field for custom trans types. Or have I missed something in the UI? Modifying start parameters in Mac OS X?

According to the Oxygen (Oxygen 11) documentation, this should be done by right clicking the application icon in Finder. Now right clicking is not something the Mac Os X-system (10.5.8) is built for, or at least not the Mac mouse. Usually right clicking a one button Mac-mouse is done by holding down the CTRL and the Apple-key while mouseclicking. But this does not work on my Mac, there is no reaction except for selecting the file. Do I misunderstand the instructions, or is there some other way to do this? I have tried to edit the included oxygen.sh-file but this doesn't seem to do anything, I still get an errormessage about stack-memory requirements. Espen Ore Holmestrand, Norway
