Quicker way to insert character entities?

Hello, I'm using the authoring application. Is there any way to get character entities into the Author view? I expected that, by typing the special character, e.g. a double-quote, the editor would automatically replace it with the standard entity, " in this case. But it is not the case. The document is saved with just the literal character, as typed. By trial and error I found that, if I switch to the Text view, I can type "&" to display a drop-list, from which I can select an entity and it will be inserted at the caret. This is terribly slow and awkward to do. It is faster to copy and paste. I can't find any reference to character entities/special characters in either the Oxygen or the Author help. Any clues welcome. Thanks. Helen

Creating a custom menu

Hello, I've searched through the forum and email archive for similar queries but have found nothing. If this has been covered previously, I apologize for the duplication. I am running Editor 10.3. I would like to create a custom menu with several actions, including an external validation against a specific RNG schema and several transformation scenarios. In particular the RNG external validation is an action that I repeat frequently and I'd like to avoid the step of selecting the schema each time I initiate an external validation after reopening Oxygen. Catalog URI Resolver for XSLT Include/Import in Editor?

I'm finding myself in the situation where I want to edit style sheets that will, ultimately, use custom URIs to point to resources. For editing on the file system it would be easiest if I could use an XML catalog to map my private URIs to the files on my file system so the same reference will work as developed and as deployed. Is that possible today? I didn't see anything likely in the help or searching on URI resolver in the mailing list archives. No page numbers in TOC or xrefs

Dear, Will updating my exist package with Oxygen 10.3 I got this message Échec de l'opération: svn: UUID mismatch: existing directory 'trunk/eXist/extensions/xprocxq' was checked out from a different repository And then, even cleaning the package was not sufficient It did work with 10.2 (and I didn't try to make it work with 10.3 and without migrating to SVN 1.6) Cheers, Xmlizer

Is it possible, when doing a DITA OT transform, to specify ant parameters?

I like to use ant's XmlLogger as a logger for my ant builds. I think that's the last piece keeping me from really utilizing the DITA OT transforms from within oXygen, now that I can specify my own ant home. I still don't see any way to specify ant parameters as part of the scenario, though, only JVM args. What I'd like to see is a text box, just like the one for JVM args, for ant params, so I could add "-logger org.apache.tools.ant.XmlLogger -logfile buildlog.xml" to my ant command. Is there a way to do that already and I'm missing it? Steve ps - I don't post often, but I use oXygen every day. It is, really, one of the best tools I have ever used. The rate that you add new features and functionality is astounding, and, often, it seems like you are reading my mind. When I run into a problem and I think, "I wish oXygen could do this ...." it often already does, or the feature gets added in the next point release. If y'all have a blog where I can donate to a "Buy the developers a beer" tip jar, send it on to me, I owe you.

docbook 5 + entities + doctype +xincludes?

First, thank you very much for your helpful reply over the last few days. It has really helped me. I'm trying to figure out how to insert character entities in docbook 5. Reading the docbook 5 documentation , I learned that you still need to indicate a doctype to validate: http://www.docbook.org/docs/howto/#faq-authoring-general-entities After I added the example entity set, <!DOCTYPE article [ <!ENTITY % isopub SYSTEM "http://www.w3.org/2003/entities/iso8879/isopub.ent"> %isopub; ]> things worked a-ok in oxygen. Here's my question. My oxygen editor validated successfully only if I have a doctype declaration at the top of every xml document referenced by the xincludes in addition to the main document. That doesn't make sense. That means I need to have 10 (or 100 or 200) instances of boilerplate code at the top of the doc. If I put the doctype element only once in the main index file (the file with the references to the xincludes), shouldn't the validator be aware of the entity file after it was declared at the top of the main index file? Or is this something quirky about the validation engine which is requiring each file to have a doctype element? Finally, I'm not sure I understand the syntax of the doctype element. (need to do some research). This reference goes to a public document, not to something local which I can maintain. If I added this to the catalog under the framework/docbook5 directory, <system systemId="http://www.w3.org/2003/entities/iso8879/isopub.ent" uri="isopub.ent"/> would this be sufficient? This would mainly be a concern if I wanted to add to my list of entities over time (or reference different entity sets). How would this be done? xml:id + docbook5 validation problems

I've noticed some inconsistencies in the way Oxygen validates a chapter element in an xinclude file when you add xml:id= I have . I'm trying to add xml:id to chapters so I can change the output html with the use.id.as.filename parameter. I'm using xincludes with each separate xinclude file containing a chapter. I'm getting a weird error message when validating in Oxygen. SystemID: I:\My Documents\xml\rj3\er1.xml Engine name: oNVDL Severity: error Description: bad value for attribute "id" from namespace "http://www.w3.org/XML/1998/namespace" Start location: 2:80 ******************************* here is what I have in the er1.xml file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <chapter xmlns="http://docbook.org/ns/docbook" version="5.0" xml:id="99er1"> <title xml:id="firstdd">Notion #1</title> <para xml:id="blah">ddddd</para> <para>Designed by Gustave Eiffel in 1889,<parameter ></parameter> The Eiffel Tower is one of the most widely recognized buildings in the world. </para> </chapter> Ok, now for the freaky part. If I remove xml:id attribute, rename the chapter element to sect1 and insert xml:id again, it validates just fine. I've tried it several times and can duplicate it each time on my machine. I've tried the Reset Cache and Validate option each time. Any idea if this is an Oxygen/validator bug or if there is something peculiar to xinclude syntax which I am overlooking? Any reason why this corrects the problem? By the way, sometimes it can be difficult to tell whether a problem is an application-specific problem or a docbook/xsl problem. Thanks. importing a custom docbook epub stylesheet

Hi, I noticed there is a good web demo of how to customize a docbook stylesheet. http://www.oxygenxml.com/demo/DocbookCustomization/docbookCustomization.html Basically you create a customization layer which imports the standard docbook stylesheet. Then you edit that customization layer. I noticed something strange. I assume that xslt v2 is better because it's a bigger number (and I've glanced over the differences in syntax, etc). Can you think of a reason why something would fail when version 2 is specified which would not be the case if version 1 is specified? Is best practice just to play it safe and go with version 1, or should I generally use 2 unless otherwise specified? 2. I'm guessing that it's easier to debug a local copy of a xsl file than a remote one (in this case version 1.7.5.1 of the epub-xsl transform. which is different from the local version (which is 1.7.4 that came with 10.2). Is there a way that Oxygen knows to associate the URL in the xsl import command with a local file or files on my Windows machine? I don't know how to do this. 3. (Now for my really naive question). What's the best way to debug XSLT messages. Should I start at the source xsl of the file(s) being imported here. Or should I be looking up references in Saxon parser or using some Oxygen debugging view. I realize that the answer is probably "it depends", but where does one start first? Thanks. In Windows vista 64 , when I right click an xml/xsl file, a new and separate instance of Oxygen will open up. Problem with Idiom FO transform

Hello, I'm new here. I have a question: When I use the DITA OT transformation, the pdf is successfully created, but when I try to use the Idiom FO transformation, it chugs along, then stops and hangs with this in the log: 1071 ERROR [ main ] org.apache.fop.datatypes.LengthBase - getBaseLength called without context Does anyone know what that's about? CSS to Indicate Element References a Graphic?

For using CSS in Author mode for arbitrary doctypes (in my case, an XSD schema), is there a way to indicate via CSS that a given element is a reference to a graphic? I didn't see anything in the Oxygen help under CSS. First, Sorin, Good to hear that you are considering an epub transformation for a future release. I'll be sure to make an announcement at www.teleread.org when that happens. There is a dearth of good tools to produce .epub files from source. So here is my understanding based on what you said: When the files are in a project, the xpr project file is an xml file containing the customizations specific to your project. That includes names of files, and the specifics of any customized transformation which you have added for the specific project. So you could find your customizations here. so docbook5.framework stores all the scenarios which will show up for the docbook5 global scenarios list? My main concerns here are 1)being able to find the xslt customizations after I make them (in the event that i need to run them via command line or use another application), 2)being able to use the same xslt customizations for a second project if I create another docbook project and 3))not accidentally deleting or altering the default transforms. I guess the general solution is to use projects as much as possible. I'm looking here http://www.oxygenxml.com/doc/ug-oxygen/preferences-sharing.html I'm not quite sure what you are doing when you go to Configure Transformation Scenario and switch from GLOBAL SCENARIOS to PROJECT SCENARIOS and vice versa. Regardless of whether I select GLOBAL or PROJECT, they both show the same scenarios (the read-only scenarios indicated by a key icon and a customized scenario I have created myself). Is this normal? (My guess: I originally created them with GLOBAL SCENARIOS checked, and so that means they appear in the PROJECT SCENARIOS tab as well. But the rev). If I try to delete a custom scenario from either Project Scenarios or Global Scenarios and press ok, I see that the scenario i have tried to delete has not been deleted. What do I need to do to accomplish this? Reading through the archives, I see that you are trying to rework the UI for the transformations dialog. That would probably be a good thing. The thing that confuses me is why the same scenarios appear when you have PROJECT SCENARIOS checked as when would have GLOBAL SCENARIOS. Using cref, oxygen, and transforms

When I run any of the default transforms in Oxygen (to PDF, HTML, etc.), the cref value is blank. I'm not getting an error in the transform - says it transformed fine. But cref isn't working. Clues on how to debug this? The cref is a major component of my documentation plans - I want to have pre-defined values that I can use in documentation so I don't need to update product names, release dates, and so on, inside the final documents.

Hello, When I copy/paste a text from Xpress in an xml element, I have this message: F [Xerces] An invalid XML character (Unicode: 0x0) was found in the element content of the document. Hi, I'm a relative xml newbie, and I'm trying to use docbook to generate .epub archives (docbook 1.7.4 has a xsl transform for that). I find I am lost in a lot of things having to do with the basic environment/customization. When you configure a transformation, you can edit the parameters by clicking parameters. I understand what is going on here. But I can't understand where the customizations you are making to parameters are written down. Suppose I bring my docbook files to a new computer without Oxygen and I must use the same customizations.Where does Oxygen store these values--in a text file somewhere? When you configure a custom transformation, where is the configuration information stored after you are done? Is there a path for project customizations as opposed to global customizations? Speaking of good transforms, it would be nice to setup a transform to epub format for docbook files (especially since the xsl file is basically done). Embedding transform history in oXygen output

Hi all, thanks again for all the help several weeks ago. Demo'ing oXygen in a project-wide DocBook documentation planning session was very useful. I am wondering if there is a way to automatically embed information about transformation history into HTML generated by oXygen. I'm thinking about chapters and articles, etc. produced by a distributed volunteer force where an editor upstream may have questions about the XSL stylesheet version, the date the file was produced, etc. I am thinking this metadata would probably work best as hidden comments. We can (and probably should) use our forthcoming style manual to require inserting this information regardless of the method of production, and enforce usage through the usual methods (bribes, pleading, public floggings, etc.); not everyone will be using oXygen, and some may be using batch files that effectively serve the same purpose. Not Seeing Any Transform Scenarios for DITA Maps in Oxygen 10

A colleague upgraded from 9 to 10.0 and then from 10.0 the 10.2. In both 10.0 and 10.2 he does not get any transformation scenarios for DITA maps in the map manager. I couldn't see any obvious reason for this--I went through the install with him and made sure all the DITA-related settings and setup were correct as far as I could tell. What would cause this behavior?
