Feature Request: Drag Tabs to Project and DITA Map Views

I find myself wanting to grab tabs for open files and drag them into either the project view or dita map view in order to add them to the respective view. For the project, just add to the project. For DITA maps, create topicref to the file. That would make it easy to create a new file and then add it to map without having to go through the "add topicref" process. XInclude warnings in version 9.2

I just updated to version 9.2 build 2008050821. I have many XInclude tags in by Docbook document that include plain text code samples like the following: <programlisting><xi:include href='../code/output/actionmailer/generator_example.txt' parse='text' xmlns:xi='http://www.w3.org/2001/XInclude'/></programlisting> With the new version I'm receiving a large red warning in the author view like: Error parsing external reference: file:/Users/cody/writing/oreilly/book/code/output/actionmailer/generator_example.txt. Cause: The replacement of an 'include' element appearing as the document element in the top-level source infoset cannot contain characters. Is there any way to prevent this behavior? Map Editor: New Topicrefs Have Scope="peer"

I have been using the map editor by creating topicrefs to non-existent topics and then using the "topic doesn't exist, create new?" feature to create the referenced topic. The one problem I'm finding is that when I create the topicref, after I specify the URL of the target topic, the dialog sets the scope= value to "peer", which I then have to change to "local" so the reference will be correct. The URL I'm specifying is relative to the location of the map document, so the dialog should be able to tell that the target, while it doesn't exist, will be below the map's location (I can't think of any other way it would presume to guess whether a referenced topic is local or a peer). Alternatively, it should always take any relative path to be a local reference and any absolute path to be a peer path. Hi Rob, This behavior is configurable through a Java system property passed in the command line. You need to edit the oxygen.sh script to specify multiple instances to false, see also the comment in the oxygen.sh script about that: # Set multiple instances to false if you want to have a single running instance of Oxygen when # repeatedly starting oxygen.sh. SVN commit dialog issue

In the svn compoent, the commit dialog shouldn't be modal. I'm tired of needed to cancel out of a commit because I want to diff one of the files in the commit to see what has changed in that file. I'm having to open MacVim and create all of my comments there, and then copy/paste those into the commit dialog, which is also inconvenient. Thanks.

Shortcut Problem

Dear Oxy-users, I am currently trying to learn how to do DocType Associations and I experienced two problems, a minor and a major one. Heres the minor problem: I created a new button to insert a <lb/> element. Inserting works fine, i.e. after clicking the button, a <lb/> appears in the code. But in author mode, i guess because <lb/ > is defined as a block element (to actually make the linebreak appear) it is shown as <lb></lb> and the cursor in placed inside the <lb></lb> after inserting it. So if the editor continues to write, he fills the <lb> which is of course not allowed by the schema. What I would like to do is to position the cursor behind the element after inserting it. is that possible? The major problem concerns shortcuts: i defined a shortcut for the button, but it just doesn't work. Thats also true for predefined buttons, not only for my newly created ones. I tried to use the TEI Doctype and no shortcut works. I have no idea how to approach this problem. What could I do? Thanks! Forgot to CC the list. Anyway, I just lost keyboarding ability again -- I am using oXygen standalone - not in eclipse. Clicking with the mouse works fine and keying in other apps works fine (including eclipse). Hi, Is it just me or is version 9.2 acting strangely? I keep losing the ability to use the keyboard for things like cut and paste. I am on Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon (8.x with the latest updates). I have java 1.6.05 installed. Tools -> Canonicalize mangles non-Latin1 characters

Author mode doesn't support accented letters in selectors

Hi, it seems that in Author mode (in oXygen 9.1) doesn't recognize accented letters in CSS selectors and thus it is not unable to properly style documents that use non-English characters in element names. See attached test files. No Button for Xref Creation in 9.2

hide/replace content of elements

Dear list, i have yet another question concerning the hiding or replacing of elements, but this time regarding the content. working in the author mode it would be helpful to hide certain elements, like <note> or <abbr>. using display:none is not very helpful, though, because then the element gets completely removed, even from the structure-view (which i think should be considered a bug, the structure view should not be affected by the css). using visibility:hidden seems to be a better idea, but then the text is just invisible and the empty elements are producing large gaps in the text. do you see any possibility to hide the text on the one hand, but display a label or something (showing the tags would be perfectly fine). i also experimented with width=1px in the definition of the element in the css, but it doesn't work. thanks in advance, Philipp

Karl, The good folks at syncROsoft will undoubtedly chime in with features to recommend, but be aware that what you are asking is very open-ended: how do you use and develop tools to perform analytics on documents and schemas. In the general case, I doubt it's possible to build a set of tools for everyone that does this comprehensively and well, given the variety of different sorts of document sets, their schemas, how and whether they are already documented, their designs and implementation patterns, and the requirements of different sorts of transformations. This is not to say that there are no sweet spots that a toolkit like oXygen can find (it's already found a few); just that whatever oXygen gives you, inevitably you are going to be on your own to an extent -- to say nothing of being in a position to envision and possibly implement something that is very useful for you without necessarily being useful to anyone else (or even to you on the next project). That's just what life on the leading edge is like. That having been said, the answer to your specific questions is certainly yes. As you suggest, XSLT is great for this sort of thing. Many things can also be accomplished ad-hoc, using XPath (especially XPath 2.0) from oXygen's XPath query. So, "distinct-values(//*/name())" will list the names of all elements appearing in the document, while "distinct-values(//div/@class)" will give you all the values of @class attributes appearing on div elements. Etc. etc. (IINM oXygen has even promised to give us a way to export the results of these queries in XML, which will be extra useful.) I have also found Schematron to be very useful and fairly lightweight for edge-case diagnostics over sets of documents. For analytics over large sets of documents, for performance reasons you may wish to load your documents into an XML database. Certain databases can be configured as back ends to oXygen, as documented on the site. The hardest part of this -- and the reason why it's not necessarily easy to generalize -- is in defining your requirements: what do you want to find and how do you want the report to look? Having done that, implementing is generally pretty straightforward. IndexOutOfBoundsException while importing a gnucash XML file

Hi all, I am trying to create an XSD schema for the gnucash XML file format, and so tried to use Oxygen v9.1 (MacOSX standalone) to load the gnucash file. The attempt to load the file caused Oxygen to abort the load with the error below. An IndexOutOfBoundsException implies to me that something is broken within whatever parser is being used to parse the XML. Has anyone encountered this before? Please restart after allocating more memory to oxygen. For this modify the parameter -Xmx in the startup script, for example -Xmx700m. In case you were running a diff tool when this problem occurred you can try to use another algorithm next time. For more details see the 'Performance problems' and 'Setting a parameter in the startup script' sections of the User Manual. Ok, baby steps! Using Trang Converter, I've created an XML schema from XML source. The output I chose was W#C XML-Schema (recommendations for other formats are welcome, I do not know the pros/cons here). Now I am going to mark up the schema with xs:documentation and xs:annotation. Rigth so far? Ok, how about this. I have my stylesheet and I have the XML source. Arbitrarily I have chosen to use a number of the elements in the stylesheet. Is it possible to create a USED and NOT USED resource of elements and attributes from the 2 documents? So a document outlining the uses, maybe the count of occurences? I could write another transformation to figure this out, er, but if it is built into Oxygen than that would be great. Karl.. Customer XML to Schema

This is more than likely very easy to do! I'd like to get some intellisense from my customer's XML document when I'm editing xslt. Is this posssilbe, or impossible? There is no schema for the XML, so I guess step 1 is to create a schema from their XML source, I didn't see where to do this. Karl..

What options do I have in commenting and then documenting my customer's XML using Oxygen? I imagine the possiblity of both, stating fact, and then posing questions, in an attempt to establish rules, understanding, consistency, layout and semantics. Hopefully inline / embeded directly in with the XML, and then eventually publishing a schema and or resource of my findings. Hope that wasn't too vague of a question! Karl..

line breaks again: oxygen author mode does not interpret <lb /> correctly

Sorry, i just realized that I was mistaken in my previous email. in fact, oxygen correctly inserts <lb /> only into the xml-document. what still bothers me, and thats probably why i got confused, is the behaviour in the Author mode. there, with "full tags turned on" <lb /> is display as <lb>lb</lb> which seems to be an odd interpretation of the XML. anyway, changing to "block tags" and defining lb in the css as inline-block looks like an acceptable solution if, and here is my problem, the line would really break in the Author mode. But it doesn't. After the <lb /> element i can just continue to write. How could i make Oxygen to interpret <lb /> correctly? Thanks, and sorry again for my first post. Philipp

Insert empty elements using the elements view

Hi all, i have a question concerning the elements-view in Oxygen 9.1. I want to insert empty elements like <lb/> <cb/> etc. The elements-view lists <lb> among the elements which accoring to my schema are allowed at the current cursor position, but when i double-click <lb> it inserts the following fragment: <lb>lb</lb> "lb" being highlighted for editing. I checked the preferences but i cannot find any definition of the <lb> element. Where can I change such a behaviour? Any hints and pointers to documentation or solutions will be appreciated. It appears that you can only configure a stylesheet to process one XML file at a time. using custom parser in saxon 9 transformation scenario

Hi, I'm new to oxygen, but I have written a custom uri resolver which references a custom parser, for saxon 9. The parser reads a binary format file, and returns xml events to saxon. It seems to work well interactively; now I would like to use it in the oxygen xslt debugging environment. I have configured a transformation scenario with the appropriate classes on the class path including both the resolver and the parser and classes upon which they depend. However when I invoke the transformation, I get "Content is not allowed in prolog", which looks to me like the parser isn't getting first crack at the binary data. Does anyone have a suggestion to help with this? Cheers, Peter

Validating XML instance with a Schema which imports another Schema

I believe this is a bug with Oxygen 9.1, but please correct me if I'm erring in my thoughts or configuration. Here is the scenario: I have a schema which imports a second remote schema. I can validate this schema with its remote schema by configuring a custom validation scenario which declares the remote schema urls, as opposed to using local copies with a SchemaLocation declaration. If I declare local SchemaLocations, this all works and there are no validation errors, so I think I have isolated the problem to an Oxygen 9.1 bug. Now, I wish to perform the next logical step and validate an XML instance of this remote schema. The XML is located here: http://www.hmis.info/schema/2_8/Example_HUD_HMIS_Instance.xml Again, I set up an appropriate custom validation scenario declaring both remote schema (the referred schema) at: http://www.hmis.info/schema/2_8/HUD_HMIS_2_8.xsd and the one it imports at: http://www.hmis.info/schema/2_8/AIRS_3_0_draft5_mod.xsd When I run the Oxygen default validation, I get the following error: "Message:src-resolve: Cannot resolve the name 'airs:tSiteService' to a(n) 'type definition' component." It's complaining about not finding the schema imported by the referred schema. It does find the referred schema aok. This should not happen, as I don't get this error when validating the referred schema, for which Oxygen's validator locates the imported schema when the custom validation scenario is declared. Hi, I was wondering if it's possible to get oXygen 9.1 working with EXSLT? I'm particularly interested in regExp, but when I try that, I get a debugger error "Unknown Saxon extension element: script". If someone has been able to get this working, can you please share how you accomplished this? Thanks, Jim P.S. importation of a remote schema problem

I have a schema here: http://www.hmis.info/schema/2_8/HUD_HMIS_2_8.xsd which in turn imports this schema: http://www.hmis.info/schema/2_8/AIRS_3_0_draft5_mod.xsd If I copy the latter schemas locally and give a SchemaLocation to the local copies, it validates fine. However, if I remove the local SchemaLocation statement, I get this validation error from Oxygen 9.1: "[Xerces] src-resolve: Cannot resolve the name 'airs:tSiteService' to a(n) 'type definition' component. @see: http://www.w3.org/TR/xmlschema-1/#src-resolve reposHUD/tags/HUD_HMIS_XML_2.8 HUD_HMIS_2_8.xsd line 828 1208818729409 195997" Why can't Xerces/Oxygen validate against the remote copy of the imported schema? I tried declaring it in the XML Catalog in Prferences, but it didn't help. Any insights are very appreciated. Thank you!
