oxygen hangs when saving to URL

Dear oXygen users and developers, When using oXygen to access files on the eXist database, I frequently encounter a situation where oXygen hangs and stops responding to any input. This occurs when saving to URL, especially, (although I am not 100% sure, since this is difficult to test efficiently) but not always, when saving a new file. I wonder what might cause this problem and how to avoid it. For your information, this happens on both Intel and PPC Macs with the latest OS X installed (but I seem to recall having this also experienced with a Windows XP machine), eXist is a recent SVN build. Generating "hot" reports

Hi, One nice feature in oXygen is that you can wire in External Tools, and oXygen will capture their outputs in a Command Results panel. Another is, of course, that you can link directly from reports generated by validators, XPath queries and the like -- which also appear in Command Results panels. Can these two features be combined? In other words, would it be possible for me to generate a report in an external tool which, once oXygen picked it up in its panel, would allow me to link directly to locations named in the report? I'm familiar with the "SystemID", "Location", "Description" format oXygen saves out from command results, but apparently (unless I'm missing something) what I want to do here isn't quite as simple as creating this format. Is this a feature request, or should I be able to accomplish what I want already? debugger questions

Hello, Just wanted to send some feed back on the tool regarding the xsl debugger: - Why do breakpoints not set ? There are 2 "add break point"s in the right click menu ... only 1 seems to add break points ... the other just changes the colour of the break point. - Watched variables don't update as you step in the debugger ... unless of course you click around in the gui to force a refresh ... this makes debugging pretty annoying ... - Can't break on variable definitions ... i keep getting an error msg that says "Breakpoints can only be created on a line containing the end of a start tag" ? - Inside some looping constructs it seems watches on certain xpaths return null ... even though variables dependent on the same xpath are set ... Editing & Processing DITA on 8.2

Hello Sorin / oXygen users Can anyone provide some guidelines/clues on using DITA 1.0 on oXygen 8.2 (while it does not yet incorporate DITA's Open Toolkit), provided the right DTDs are referenced. I got below some specific issues: - Filename extensions: although DITA's topic or map markup is well-formed XML and should validate against the corresponding DTD, DITA uses the file name extensions: *.dita and *.ditamap. As far as editing and validating, they seem to validate well with these extensions. - Now for OT processors that are available in O2 current version: Saxon 6.5.5 and FOP, can we set transformation scenarios, based on OT supplied XSLT sheets and process them to generate PDF out of a topic file or a map file? - This is probably for oXygen support. Siren: is the direction to strictly follow the processing tools and scenarios specified by OT (since they are part of the standard), or can we expect oXygen as an independent vendor to provide further transform scenarios beyond those specified by the OT. There is a bit of fuzziness of whether DITA is perceived as an XML application or as a tool. I tend to think of it as an application, but if it is fully dependent on the OT for processing, then it is more like a tool without a specific realization. Appreciate your feedback . Problem with Eclipse 3.3 plugin and XSL editor on Linux

I recently upgraded my Linux Eclipse installation to the Eclipse Europa package "Eclipse for RCP/Plug-in Developers" and added the Oxygen Eclipse 3.3 plugin. The XML editor seems to be fine but whenever I try to start the XSL editor it says: An SWT error has occurred. [stuff about exiting] Unhandled event loop exception (Time...) Reason: Cannot initialize Drop I have a similar installation on Windows but that seems to be working. When I try to create a new XML document and select this schema file, the create doc wizard chooses the ogc namespace, and therefore offers up as root element all the elements defined in the imported ogc schema. I would like to get the elements defined in *this* schema under the target namespace. Using Catalogs with Saxon8B XQuery Processor

I'm trying to use Saxon through Oxygen to query documents that require a catalog for DTD resolution (the DTD system ID is an absolute URI that isn't a real location). I've configured Oxygen's catalog setup to use my catalogs and that works fine. When I try to doc a query like this: Let $docs := collection(iri-to-uri("mydocsdir&recurse=yes;select=*.xml")) I get a "404 Not Found for: {URI of DTD} I didn't see any obvious option for specifying the catalog. Since I'm using Saxon's built-in catalog resolver I'm not sure what to do to make it work with my catalogs. Thanks, Eliot ---- W. 3-way merge?

Hello, The XML Diff/Merge tool that comes with Oxygen looks pretty nice. However there doesn't seem to be provision for a 3-way merge (using a common ancestor). This kind of merge is a common requirement when a repository of XML documents is continually modified by a distributed team or company; users need to keep merging others' changes to documents with their own changes before committing modified documents to the repository. This would tie in well with the Synchro SVN client, which allows you to perform merges in exactly this situation, but apparently without the benefit of common-ancestor-awareness (?), or at least without XML-awareness and common-ancestor-awareness at the same time. Are there any plans to incorporate 3-way (common ancestor) merge into Oxygen Diff/Merge tool? Regards, Lars

DocBook 5 rng-based documents

Hi oXygen 8.2 supports both DocBook 4.4 and 5.0. According to Norm Welsh DockBook5 Definitive Guide [quote/unquote]: "The normative schema for DocBook V5.0 is the RELAX NG Grammar with its Schematron annotations. The only reason to use a DTD with DocBook V5.0 is if your editing environment (or other tool) requires one, for example, for syntax directed editing." The sample provided with oXygen 8.2 has this declaration: <!DOCTYPE book PUBLIC "-//OASIS//DTD DocBook V5.0//EN" "http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/xml/5.0/docbook.dtd"> Anyone knows what should be the proper DOCTYPE declaration if the document is to be based on the RNG. XSLT coping xsi:schemaLocation?

O.K., I think I'm down to the last issue. When I run my transform, my root elements xsi:schemaLocation attribute is not copied over however. As I need to process the root elements children, I have to use copy. I tried using the same technique I use for other attributes, but I can't specify an attribute name with xsi: in the name. Anyone know how to get the location to copy over? I still need it in place to validate the transformed element. I'd even settle for being able to hard-code the value in the XSL file. Thanks.

validation and custom java extensions

Hello, maybe I have missed it in the documentation: How do I register custom XSLT-extensions implemented in Java so that the editor stops complaining about not finding a matching function? The transform works fine if I register my Jar file as an extension so the error reported by the editor is a little annoying. xsl question

I have an issue I'm trying to resolve. When I perform an xslt transform in the XSLT Debugger, the output is what I expect. When I execute a transform with the command line: java org.apache.xalan.xslt.Process -in applications\InputTemplate.xml -xsl configxsl\transformer.xsl -out applications\Output.xml the output is not the same. In oXygen, I've specified InputTemplate.xml as the XML, transformer.xsl as the XSL (both open in buffers) and Xalan. The difference I'm seeing is that in the debugger, an XInclude is being included (the output window shows the combined document, and properly transformed. This is what I want). The output when run from the command line leaves the XInclude element alone, but otherwise properly transforms the document. So does oXygen just process in-memory? Is there a way to see the equivalent command line? Thanks.

Saxon xinclude processing of Xquery

Dear Oxygen users, The Saxon documentation (http://www.saxonica.com/documentation/changes/intro/xinclude89.html) says that starting with Version 8.9 (Java implementation) there is support for xinclude processing for both XSLT and XQuery. Now, since Oxygen 8.2 already bundles Saxon B 8.9.0.3 and it runs on my Mac with Java 1.5, I assume it should be possible to tell Saxon to expand my xincludes for the query. However, I can't quite figure out if Oxygen has an option somewhere or, failing that, how I can pass a commandline argument for Saxon through the transformer. [bug] printing diagrams is broke

I went to print a diagram of a schema I have been working on. So I context-clicked and selected print. The dialog that pops up offers little real options (margin and orientation), so I just pressed OK and walked over to the printer. Where 24 pages of paper were waiting for me. So I'm left wondering what moron thought that was a good thing when designing the print system? What an incredible waste of paper. Plus, like I really have nothing better to do that tape 24 pages (it's a relatively small schema too) together. I'm a big fan of oXygen, and have converted several of my co-workers over to it. This is really the first time I've had to just scratch my head in wonder. For images, the print system should either constrain to a single page (the default), or ask what to do.

Failed to create InputSource

Hi, I use oXygenxml 7.2 within Eclipse 3.2.1 and want to resolve a path to a XML schema file using a catalog file whiche I have registered in oxygen preferences. The verbose output tells me that oxygen resolves the systemid correctly (Resolved System: http://.... file://.....) but cannot load the schema file from the resolved location: Failed to create InputSource: file://.... The resolved location is definitly correct and points to a valid schema file. Can anyone help me? Regards, Kai

Is It PossibleTo Assign Shortcuts Keys For Code Template

Hi, Is it possible to assign shortcut keys for custom code template? Or is it possible to assign shortcut keys for commonly used unicode characters? It nice that oxygen has the character map dialog so that insertion of unicode characters can be easy, but it would really be nice if I can assign shortcut keys to commonly type/inserted unicode characters. I workaround that I did was assign code templates for these characters but the feedback that I got from other possible user of the editor is that it would be better if shortcut keys can be assigned. Also, when I assigned a code template like this: "ó${caret}", when I execute it using the ctrl+space the caret position moves back to the start of the character, I was assuming that it would be at the end of the character. XML Schema and empty elements

I'd like to have my schema specify that not only are certain elements required, but that they can't be blank. I can't seem to find how to specify this. I thought it was the nillable attribute, but that doesn't prevent blank elements.

XML Schema & XInclude ?

I have an xml schema I've created. I'd like to have several XML documents that are combined into a larger one (I do this with DocBook & chapters). But I can't figure out how to do this with XMLSchema. Basically what I have is one xml document per environment (it's for configuration information). I'd like to have a parent document that has elements from the schema that are generic to the overall base, then includes the several smaller environment xml documents. Any ideas? Thanks!

iso schematron reports cause validation failure

Hello, I'm using Schematron to validate XML documents in Oxygen 8.2. My Schematron schema includes "asserts" (as usual) and also "reports." When a "report" is triggered, the message is displayed by oxygen (as it should be), but Oxygen also says "Validation failed: n errors", which I think is incorrect. My understanding from the Schematron spec is that "asserts" are for detecting validation errors, while reports are for giving the user neutral information. I couldn't find a very authoritative source for this, but these two articles support it: http://www.xml.com/pub/a/2000/11/22/schematron.html?page=2 (The general intent is that /assert/ is used to detect errors, while /report/ can be used to report affirmative qualities of an instance.) http://www.ldodds.com/papers/schematron_xsltuk.html#c35e2592b6b3 While reports and asserts are effectively the inverse of one another, the intended uses of the two elements are quite different. An assert is used to test whether a document conforms to a particular schema, generating actions if deviations are encountered. A report is used to highlight features of the underlying data: *Example 6. A simple report* <report test="not(roof)">This house does not have a roof</assert> The distinction may seem subtle, especially when grapplying with a constraint which may be expressed simpler in one way or the other. However Schematron itself does not define the action which must be taken on a failed assert, or successful report, this is implementation specific. The default behaviour is to simply provide the user with the provided message. An implementation may choose to handle these two cases differently. So, it seems to me that when a "report" is triggered, oxygen should display the message but should not say that validation failed unless some "assert"s have failed. Lars

Hi I'm trying DocBook transformation to PDF for the first time. I followed the configuration parameters as per the Help pages (btw, some menus in Help pages are not up-to-date with 8.2). I tried all Saxon and Xalan transformers. I consistently get a Java error message, on one very long line, in the attached file. [defect] Eclipse plugin & full size editor

With 8.2 Eclipse 3.3 plugin, there is a defect where when I am editing with the edit area maximized, any error pops up the console/problem area, removing focus from the edit area. This is more than a little annoying! Damn near every single keystroke causes this. So for example, simply typing <mytag Will cause this to happen six times, once after each keystroke! Yes, I under stand that < and <m and <my and <myt and <myta and <mytag are each invalid. But I'm still typing. The same applies to attributes of compleated tags. In full size mode, validate should show errors on the edit window, but should not transfer focus to the errors tab.
