I have now made use of four of the experimental oXygen plugin workspace API options (on a Mac running OS X - Snow Leopard) : (1) getOptionsStorage - This has a straightforaward interface, which worked as expected. (2) createNewEditor - This was slightly more awkward to use in our plugin's context (more details below). (3) getEntityResolver - Works as expected (thanks). (4) getURIResolver - Appears to works as expected (but currently, not tested). I have managed to get the 'createNewEditor' API call to create a fresh document that is considered to be modified, using the following code: Writer writer = new StringWriter(); ... // Write to the string. ... URL url= workspace.createNewEditor("xml", "text/xml", writer.toString()); WSEditor ed=workspace.getEditorAccess(url, StandalonePluginWorkspace.MAIN_EDITING_AREA); ed.setModified(true); Observations: (1) This approach may be problematic for big documents, as the whole document is stored in a string. (2) The created document is not marked as modified. There are at least two ways of addressing the first of these points. One approach is to create a small blank document that is then overridden using the WSEditod's realoadContent(Reader). Here, the question I had was: what is the minimal XML document that can be overridden (and get the right document type association - e.g. DITA)? It might be that oXygen could automatically create such a document from the first two arguments of the createNewEditor method. A second approach could be to replace the third argument of the createNewEditor method with a java.io.Reader argument, such as is used when reloading a document into an existing WSEditor (editor.reloadContent(reader)). Overall, I am pleased with these experimental enhancements. Cli guide using DITA

Hi, I am writing a cli guide using dita and oxygen. When I generate the pdf of the cli guide, I see that: 1. Contents for the cli book are not generated. The cli guide has only bookmarks. 2. The cli page is flushed right leaving a large vertical empty column on the right of each page. From the looks I understand that this is part of the rendering style for a cli guide. But is there a way to change this? Because my content is overflowing to the right and some part of it is not even visible. Can some one help? Thanks in advance. Surya.

Grid/Author/Design tabs gray

Oxygen 12.1 I'm re-animating my use of Oxygen and want to use the Design mode for XML and Schemas. I cant figure out how to turn them on ! When I load an XML or an XSD file it shows in "Text" mode, and the tabs at the bottom "Grid" , "Design" , "Author" stay gray. Shortcut key expand all children

Request Jing bug fix to allow validation of xs:simpleType elements with an xsi:type attribute I am working on a schema where there is a need for an element <BuiltInData> which holds a literal and allows validation against any built-in type, and otherwise has no attributes. I can modifed the Relax NG schema by declaring the attribute element BuiltInData { attribute xsi:type { text }?, ... but that messes up the conversion to XSD. I don't expect Jing to check that the literal matches the datatype, but it should at least ignore the xsi:type attribute, (or better - check that the type could be derived from the element's defined datatype.) So I have 4 options, in reverse order of preference: 1. give up on validation directly from the Relax NG schema 2. maintain two versions of the RNC schema, one for direct validation and one for conversion 3. find a method for validating against the Relax NG schema other than Jing in oXygen 4. request that the validator in oXygen be modified to allow validation of xs:simpleType elements with an xsi:type attribute So I'll start with #4 - any chance this can happen? starts-with() match on @role in Schematron error reporting?

Is it in there? oXygen seems to match on exactly 'warning', etc., in @role, as the 2009 message suggests. However, I am currently working with a system that already has error identifiers along the lines of WARNING_BAD_THING and ERROR_WORSE_THING. I would like to be able to put those in assert/@role and report/@role because the @role values show up in both oXygen and SVRL even when the <assert> or <report> is in an abstract rule. (I.e., there's nothing in ISO Schematron SVRL for an abstract rule firing, but there is for its <assert>s and <report>s.) Is it possible to loosen the @role value matching to set the severity when @role starts with 'warning', etc., instead of matching on the whole @role value? Support for Tar Files in Archive Browser?

I noticed that TAR files are not supported in the archive browser. Would it be possible to add it? When I needed it I couldn't find the equivalent Java libraries for TAR as you have for Zip so I implemented my own Tar unpacker and direct entry reading library, which I can probably share (it wasn't a huge effort). I did not have a requirement to implement writing back to tar, which is probably the hard part. Getting <oXygen/> to run Calabash to run Saxon with -dtd:off or with catalogs?

I have a XSLT 2.0 stylesheet that uses 'collection()' to open multiple documents and that runs fine from within <oXygen/> 12.1 either because I have 'DTD validation of the source' set to 'off' in my preferences or because Saxon is finding the DTD because I have an <oXygen/> framework for the document type. When I try to execute the stylesheet as part of a XProc pipeline, Calabash gives the error message: E:\path\DTD.dtd (The system cannot find the file specified) where 'DTD.dtd' is the system identifier in the DOCTYPE of the documents, which makes this look a lot like it's a Saxon error message. Is there a way to get <oXygen/> to run Calabash to run Saxon with -dtd:off or with catalogs? Plugin parameter setting.

Does oXygen 12.x provide a way of integrating 'plugin' parameters with the application preference settings? I am in the processes of adding user-level parameters to an oXygen workspace plugin, and would like to make use of any infrastructure that oXygen provides for hosting and setting these parameters. From reading the documentation I am expecting to have to write a custom plugin parameter settings GUI, along with its underpinning persistent storage support. On a related note, is there a directory that plugins are supposed to store their user/project specific data in? Hi Shaun, You have two options: - from the project panel, use the Open with -> Internal Editor from the contextual menu (right click) and select the XML Editor from there. oXygen will remember that you opened that file with the XML editor and next time you open it normally it will use the XML editor again. - go to Options->Preferences -- File Types and identify the php extensions and select for that the XML Editor instead of the PHP Editor that appears as default. Thus all the .php files will be opened by default with the XML editor. XProc transformation that opens web browser/PDF viewer

Hello, I have an XProc pipeline that produces a PDF document (the pipeline stores the generated PDF in a file on the file system). Is there a way to create a XProc transformation in oXygen that would, when finished, open a PDF viewer (or a web browser) with the generated file? I can see that for example the DITA-OT transformations do this. Is this behavior available in these transformations, or can I do the same also in my XProc transformations? PDF Images not found

I am trying to render a PDF document with JPEG images imbedded in with the text and am getting the following error message when I run the transformation using Oxygen 12.1 with Apache FOP: ERROR - Image not found. URI: ../xmlimgMacPh291.jpg. (See position 6535:-1) The URI resolves when I do an XSLT transformation using a plain XSL stylesheet using a version of Saxon. My research in trying to resolve this problem has turned up a lot of varying solutions which are confusing to a relative novice. Can someone provide me with the requirements for outputting a PDF text with embedded images? Non-checked exception in a plugin: silently ignored

Hi, I just got a hard time with a problem with a plugin. This is a workspace plugin which installs a button in its own toolbar. After some changes, it started behaving like it was not properly fired when clicking on it. It turned out, after some debugging, it was because a null pointer exception was thrown, but silently ignored, regardless the level of logging. Maybe it would be nice to log such errors, or to provide an option to increase such checks if they have some cost, or to provide an oXygen-specific Swing action which does such checks and reporting. Installing plugin Java class files

Hi, In the user manual, section "How to Install a Plugin"[1], one can read: 2. Put in this new folder the plugin descriptor file plugin.xml, the Java classes of the plugin and the other files that are referenced in the descriptor file. What does exacty "put the Java classes in the folder" mean? Is it a JAR file? The class object files themselves? In a directory corresponding to the package name? I tried all of those three possibilities, I have the following in <oxygen-12.1>/plugins/ (given the package my classes are in is org.example.test): plugins/my-plugin/plugin.xml plugins/my-plugin/my-plugin.jar plugins/my-plugin/MyPlugin.class plugins/my-plugin/MyExtension.class plugins/my-plugin/org/example/test/MyPlugin.class plugins/my-plugin/org/example/test/MyExtension.class The plugin.xml descriptor is: <!DOCTYPE plugin SYSTEM "../plugin.dtd"> <plugin name="MyPlugin" description="My first plugin" version="0.1.0" vendor="fgeorges.org" class="org.example.test.MyPlugin"> <extension type="selectionProcessor" class="org.example.test.MyExtension"/> </plugin> When I start oXygen 12.1, it says it does not find the extension class. document nodes as external parameters

I'm trying to run an XQuery with 2 external parameters expected as document-node(). declare variable $common:annotations as document-node() external ; declare variable $common:patterns as document-node() external ; When I put in a value in the external parameters in the transformation , it forces a quote around them Put in: doc('file://...') Turns into 'doc(file://... <file:///\\...> )' And I get runtime exceptions about a string being passed where a document-node() is expected. Smart paste in oXygen 12.1: Cannot validate <{...org/1999/xhtml}html>: no element declaration available

Hi group I have just installed oXygen XML Editor 12.1 and I'm testing the "smart paste" feature. This is what I do: 1. Create a new topic. 2. Copy a section from a topic on our website: http://www.scripto.nu/index.php?q=en/node/71 3. Put my cursor in the <body> element in oXygen and try to paste the copied section. I'm getting the following error message: Cannot validate <{...org/1999/xhtml}html>: no element declaration availableµ I get the same result when I try to paste a single paragraph. Any ideas? "Job well done!" messages

Hi, Of course, the usual thing with XML processors when validating has been to give error messages for syntax or validation errors, but to be coyly silent when no errors are found. The user is left to infer that everything is good based on the fact that there are no complaints. oXygen improves this state of affairs by having a little box that lights up green when a document is valid, plus a line that says (with admirable clarity) "Document is valid". However, some users wish for more. They'd like a trumpet fanfare or something analogous. (Wouldn't we all?) In particular, I have some users who have asked if they can have their Schematron tell them when there are no errors. I have explained that they will probably have to be content with the green light, and I don't think this is too much to ask of them. But I am also wondering whether oXygen might have hooks somewhere that could be used to pop up an alert box or something, with a congratulatory message of some kind. (This is a case, of course, when having an explicit Schematron report test when "not($a or $b or $c)" won't work, since the number of tests is in the double or triple digits.) What are the ramifications here and what would it take for these users to get what they want? If this were all done inside a processing pipeline I could Schematron the results of my Schematron to run the test; but it's not; nor do they want it to be since of course they like the fact that their error messages have live links back to the documents. I am imagining some kind of facility that could be associated, for example, with a validation scenario. Possible to Graft Catalog Support to Trang Within Oxygen?

Trang as integrated with Oxygen is not catalog aware, which is a bit annoying when you want to generate XSDs from DITA map and topic types, which are all about the catalogs. Is it technically possible for Oxygen to add catalog support to Trang? Having that would be really really handy. which Schematron processor?

I'm guessing that if I check the "Use Saxon EE (schema aware) for xslt2 query binding - If checked, Saxon EE will be used for xslt2 query binding." box in the "ISO Schematron" section of the XML / XML Parser preferences page, then oXygen will use Saxon EE to validate my documents against an ISO Schematron schema that uses xslt2 query binding. But what does oXygen use as an ISO Schematron validator if I *don't* check that box? (The documentation under the Help menu doesn't say.) As I side note, I'm asking because I'm getting warnings from the validation that I thought might really be indicative of a processor- specific problem, rather than a Schematron schema or validation error. Probatron does not complain, but oXygen warns that "The attribute axis starting at an attribute node will never select anything" and that "The child axis starting at an attribute node will never select anything". The rule that generates the complaint is <rule context="tei:*/@*"> ... </rule> So I'm guessing that the processor tried to convert this to some generic XSLT that included a match pattern that would never fire. So I tried switching processors to Saxon EE, but that just added an error to the warnings: "Cannot validate <TEI>: no element declaration available". It took a Google search to find out that setting oXygen to use Saxon's -vlax switch is how to deal with that. (Found http://www.oxygenxml.com/forum/topic4460.html.)

Oxygen - Cached/Paging XML with/without Backup/AutoSave

Hello All, Recently, an Oxygen Author user has been experiencing rather large chunks of XML data being removed from documents on save. Aside from troubleshooting this particular issue, a larger issue arose given a particular scenario. Let's say the following parameters are in place: 1. Half our users are on Win XP, the other Win 7, 2. Half us Author v11.2, the other v12, 3. Windows Paging file initial and max values vary. SCENARIO 1. User checks out an XML file from a CMS repository (via an Oxygen Author plug-in) and edits the document, but 2. User gets interrupted with an unrelated task requiring one or more other apps. * The app(s) use a large amount of memory and write to Windows temp, 3. Memory is overtaxed and the Paging File is written to. 4. User returns to Author to check in the XML. Obviously, we have validation gates to reject ill-formed/invalid XML. But, theoretically, we would like to know exactly what might be checked in given the scenario, and 1. Memory and paging are maxed out already when a user makes an edit to some other document, and 1. Oxygen Backup and Automatic Save Preferences are off, 2. Backup Preferences are on, 3. Automatic Save is on and set to a low value 4. Both 2 and 3 are on. Thanks, Shaun
